Despite ABC cancelling Home Economics last week, series co-creator Michael Colton is optimistic that the Hayworths’ story might continue.

“Though the show has run its course at ABC, I’m hopeful the Hayworths will pop up somewhere else, if only so I can continue to embarrass my real-life family,” Colton wrote on X (fka Twitter) Sunday. “Love you all, and #LupeForever.”

TVLine has since confirmed that the sitcom is being shopped to other platforms.

In an earlier post, Colton called the making of Home Economics the “best experience of my career, and that’s due to our incredible cast, crew and fans.” Fellow co-creator John Aboud also acknowledged the cancellation on X, thanking “our hilarious cast, amazing crew, supportive execs, and lovely viewers… [Colton] and I will forever be grateful for the experience.”

The Topher Grace-led ensemble comedy wrapped its abbreviated third season in January. At the time, Colton weighed in on renewal odds, telling TVLine, “We know the network is very happy with the show. And we have a very devoted fan base. We’re just waiting for the right people to weigh in. It’s a process. But we’re planning to come back. We have a lot more stories to tell.”

Season 3 averaged 2.9 million total viewers and a 0.5 demo rating (with Live+7 playback), which was right on par with its Season 2 numbers. Out of the five comedies that ABC aired this past TV season, it ranked last in total audience and tied The Goldbergs and Not Dead Yet for third (last) in the demo.

Home Ec was one of two remaining bubble shows at ABC, along with The Rookie: Feds, which still has not been renewed or cancelled.
