Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin will forever be remembered for his portrayal of resourceful Kevin McCallister, the young boy who is accidentally left behind at home when his family goes on holiday in the classic Christmas movie.

His famous hands-on-face scream has really stood the test of time and the actor has now recreated that well-known pose in the name of public health.

Culkin has shared a photo on Instagram of himself wearing a face mask featuring the bottom half of his young character's face, with hands up to his cheeks in that classic scream.

He captioned the photo with a rather grisly but important message, writing: "Just staying COVID-safe by wearing the flayed skin of my younger self. Don't forget to wear your masks, kids."

He's even standing in front of a Lego version of the Empire State Building, providing a cheeky callback to the second Home Alone movie Home Alone 2: Lost In New York, which sees Kevin trying to navigate New York City after losing his family again.

His post attracted appreciation from Marvel and Star Wars actress Natalie Portman, who commented "So good Mack", while the official Lego account wrote "Brilliant prop usage!" – and quite a few fans wanted to know where they could get their hands on their own Kevin mask.

With December only two months away, it's almost Home Alone season once again.

But in future you'll have a couple of incarnations of the movie to watch as Disney is making a reboot of the festive favourite after The Walt Disney Company acquired studio 20th Century Fox, which owns the films.

The reboot will star Jojo Rabbit actor Archie Yates in a leading role, but he will reportedly not be playing another version of Kevin.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and The Office US star Ellie Kemper and Catastrophe and Deadpool 2 actor Rob Delaney have also been cast in unknown roles.

Culkin has already offered his own interpretation of what a Home Alone update could actually look like and it's certainly unique.
