It’s been 33 years since Home Alone became a holiday classic, and the movie’s famous grocery store scene illustrates how times have changed since 1990.

A new video from TikTok user Geoffrey Lyons points out that Kevin McCallister's entire haul of food staples and household supplies — 10 items in total — costs just $19.83 (after using a $1 off coupon).

When the 8-year-old heads to the local store after being left behind by his family, he makes the following purchases: Tide liquid detergent, one Stouffer’s frozen dinner, Kraft macaroni and cheese, Wonder Bread, Quilted Northern toilet paper, Snuggle dryer sheets, half a gallon of milk, Tropicana Homestyle orange juice, Saran wrap and some plastic army figurines.

In his quest to find out what the same list of items would set one back now, Lyons, a Dallas-based real estate agent, looks up each item on Target’s website to tally up the cost.

Lyons’ search turns up the following prices: $4.50 for orange juice, $4.50 for Saran wrap, $5 for a frozen dinner, $13 for Tide detergent, $3 for Wonder Bread, $3.50 for mac and cheese, $4.60 for milk, $8.79 for dryer sheets, $8 for toilet paper and $9 for toy soldiers.

The items add up to $63.73, and when he adds $5.25 for tax, the grand total is $68.99, which he notes is a 248% increase over Kevin's tab.

The numbers left commenters feeling nostalgic for the ‘90s.

“I haaaaaate 2023,” one TikTok user proclaimed.

“So what you’re telling me is that my kids couldn’t survive if I accidentally left them home alone to go on a trip to Paris,” another replied.

"Makes sense they could afford that house now," read another comment, while someone else joked, “That $1 coupon is worth $31.08 today. forgot to account for that."

In a previous post, shared Nov. 21, Lyons called out the relatively low price of the stack of 10 pizzas the McCallisters order at the beginning of the movie.

“122.50 for 10 good pizzas in 1990!” he captions the video.
