Holmdel has a solid day

Holmdel’s Hunter Kuenzel got the Hornets buzzing in the right direction by winning the first individual event, the 200 freestyle, in 1:45.22.

“It means a lot actually…(because we) didn’t have the opportunity to do it (…compete in the Monmouth County Championships) last year,” Kuenzel said. “I know a lot of the swimmers from my club team events. So, just having the opportunity to race and have fun is all you can really ask for.”

“For a lot of these kids, it has been two years since they have been in an environment where fans are in the stands and there is a lot of pressure. They are still kind of learning how to handle swimming well under pressure. We have a lot of younger guys that are mature and have helped bring the other guys along,” CBA coach Alex Fitton said. “I’m glad we were able to do this meet (this year). We don’t take any of these meets lightly. It is something that is always on the calendar, we take a lot of pride in come in and win this.”

Condon did his part with his winning performances in the 50 free (21.63) and in the 100 free (46.99) and he was a part of two of CBA’s relay wins (the 200 medley relay in 1:39.74 and the 400 freestyle relay in 3:17.46).

Upset of the meet

The upset of the meet came in the 200 freestyle relay when second-seeded Holmdel overtook top-seeded CBA, via times of 1:31.03 to 1:31.36. “Since I transferred to Red Bank Catholic, I have been only able to swim in three dual meets. So, it felt good to be out there today,” Rennard said. “I like it a lot more (not being in lane four). I don’t like being in lane four because of the pressure (to win). I feel I swim a lot better when I’m not expected to win.”
