Seth Meyers reveals his plans for the never-made 'Stefon' movie.

The Stefon movie would have had everything.

On the latest episode of Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers' Las Culturistas podcast, Late Night host and former Saturday Night Live star Seth Meyers revealed his plans for a never-made Stefon movie that would have featured Bill Hader as his beloved recurring city correspondent character and a fictionalized version of Meyers.

"It should start with Stefon at Weekend Update, and when it’s over, I’m once again disappointed that ‘as the city correspondent you did not bring, whatever, St. Patrick’s Day tip,'" Meyers recounted. "And he said, ‘Look, to make it up for you, just come out, have a night — me and you together, at Stefon’s New York.’ And I’m like, ‘All right, one night.’’’

But that night on the town would end with one major twist — the (fictional) death of Meyers. After a cold open consisting of "superfast cuts of he and I at all these crazy clubs,” Meyers continued. "Then it would end with me in a body bag. And Stefon would say, ‘He’s dead.’ Then the title splash: Stefon: The Movie.”

Stefon, a character devised by Hader and John Mulaney, was a city correspondent who would appear on Weekend Update to give tips to Meyers at the news desk. But his tips for things to do in the city would devolve into a summation of everything on offer at New York's hottest clubs, which would include off-the-wall features such as midgets, leprechauns, and more. Stefon was known for his signature jester of covering his face with his hands, as well as for his increasingly obvious crush on Meyers.

After debuting in a sketch in 2008, Stefon became a Weekend Update regular beginning in 2009. Stefon made his formal goodbye in the 2013 season 38 finale, which was Hader's final episode as a cast member. He returned in 2014 to bid adieu to Meyers in his final Weekend Update.

Studios did apparently approach Hader and Meyers about making a Stefon movie, but the idea never made it past the early pitching stages.
