Hollywood Reacts To Trump Victory With Shock And Disbelief
Despite polling suggesting the precise opposite for months, Donald Trump has won the election and is going to be the next President of the United States.
Unsurprisingly, as Hollywood was nearly unilaterally opposed to Trump, the entertainment community is not happy about what looks like the likely outcome tonight. And, by “not happy”, we mean “positively devastated.” As the results came in and the Electoral College tally began trending Trump, the reactions from celebs turned from cautious optimism to bleak despair.
One producer told Deadline that we should keep productions inside California or only in the states that shares the same values as Clinton’s voters.
Of course it wasn’t just Clinton supporters weighing in. Celebrity Trump supporters were positively ecstatic after what developed into an unexpected victory for the former The Apprentice host. Among them was David Duke, noted white nationalist whose support for Trump mirrored that of the Ku Klux Klan, who endorsed Trump this month.
This is one of the most exciting nights of my life -> make no mistake about it, our people have played a HUGE role in electing Trump! #MAGA pic.twitter.com/HvJyiJYuVa

But most reactions were from supporters of Clinton, who were devastated. For instance, Jim Carrey, who drew an original cartoon which you can see on The Awl.

The positive element from all this is that we can no longer pretend that we are free of racism & sexism. The question is, what do we do now?

There's a girl or a woman out there watching tonight who will be the president. We may have to wait another generation, but she's out there.

If he wins we must get over our disbelief & dismay immediately. We use that energy starting tomorrow to prevent him from ruining the nation.

For those asking "How?" Mid-term elections, state & municipal races, large-scale activism. As a start. We brainstorm. We organize. We act.

Some didn't like Bush. Some didn't like Obama. But this is different. Forget dislike. Many are genuinely fearful now. This is new.
