Hollywood Reacts to Government Shutdown: ‘An American Travesty’
The Senate failed to get the votes Friday night to keep the government funded, causing it to shutdown at midnight and #TrumpShutdown to trend worldwide.
Hollywood stars were among the first to react to the news and, for the most part, they were pretty harsh on President Donald Trump and his administration.
Josh Gad took it seriously, tweeting, “A Republican Senate. A Republican Congress. A Republican President. An American travesty,” while Michael Ian Black quipped: “I honestly feel like I work harder than Trump and I barely do anything.”
Here are a handful of other tweets:

The Republicans are shutting down the government in fear of 32 percent of the American people…or less. The big babies. (sorry babies) #TrumpShutdown

Is a shut down like a snow day for a government employee? Can we all just stop paying federal taxes and funnel our money to state and local programs and vulnerable people and institutions?

On the one-year anniversary of President Trump’s inauguration, the Senate rejected a government funding measure 50-49 Friday night that would have kept the government open for four more weeks. This came after the president turned away a bipartisan proposal protecting hundreds of thousands of young undocumented immigrants while increasing border security measures.
Foreseeing a stalemate, Democrats began using the hashtag #TrumpShutdown Friday before the vote, and it didn’t take long for it to top Twitter’s Worldwide Trends list.
