Sharon Osbourne Responds After Holly Robinson Peete Claims Her Former ‘The Talk’ Co-Host Said She Was “Too Ghetto” For CBS Show – Update

UPDATED SATURDAY with Osbourne’s response: Holly Robinson Peete, who was one of the original hosts of CBS’ The Talk, slammed Sharon Osbourne on Twitter saying that the co-host “complained that I was too ‘ghetto'” for the show and that Osbourne was responsible for Peete’s departure in 2011.

“I’m old enough to remember when Sharon complained that I was too ‘ghetto’ for #theTalk…then I was gone,” Peete tweeted. “I bring this up now bc I was mortified watching the disrespectful condescending tone she took w/ her co host who remained respectful because…she HAD TO.”

Peete later posted a followup tweet. “I LOVED being on The Talk … but sometimes awesome gifts come in humiliating packages.”

Osbourne denied playing a part in Peete’s firing via a Twitter post Saturday. “In response to Holly Robinson Peete’s accusation of me getting her fired from The Talk, I am sharing an e-mail sent to me from Holly one month after she was let go by CBS,” she wrote. In the private email from Peete, sent on Sept. 19, 2011, she and Osbourne appear to be on good terms. It does not show any rift between them while hinting at other possible factors in Peete’s firing.

Osbourne did not address Peete’s account that she had allegedly deemed her “too ghetto” for the show.

Peete’s comments came after Osbourne broke down during Wednesday’s episode of The Talk during a heated discussion over her public support for her friend Piers Morgan. In it, co-host Sheryl Underwood noted that “while you are standing by you your friend, it appears that you are giving validation or safe haven to something that he has uttered that is racist.” Among Morgan’s most incendiary remarks, Morgan also said he did not believe Markle’s suicidal thoughts.

“I feel like I’m about to be put in the electric chair because I have a friend who many people think is racist, so that makes me a racist,” Osbourne said, before asking Underwood to be precise about how Morgan has been racist.

After the heated conversation from Wednesday’s episode, Osbourne shared a statement on Twitter apologizing her for remarks, adding that she “felt blindsided [and] got defensive.” Morgan reacted to the moment between Underwood and Osbourne demanding that The Talk apologize after it “shamed & bullied” his friend.
