HOLLAND — Holland Community Theatre will open its season with comedic musical "Young Frankenstein" on Thursday, Oct. 5.

The comedy is an adaptation of Mel Brooks' film and includes highlights from the movie with added theatrical flair and songs.

“This production closely follows the iconic 1974 movie starring Gene Wilder with some minor updating and the addition of traditional vaudeville-type musical numbers,” said HCT Director Sue Ann Culp.

Culp said each musical number is memorable and the themes are perfect for teens and adults.

“As a community, we need to laugh more and this production is just what the ‘doctor’ ordered,” Culp said.

The musical centers around Frederick Frankenstein, a scientist in New York ashamed of his family name and history. When he inherits his grandfather’s castle in Transylvania, he finds himself stepping into his infamous grandfather’s shoes.

Frederick ends up joining the "family business" to reanimate the dead, but when his creature escapes, hilarity and dance numbers ensues.
