Get in the holiday spirit with these 10 things to do this weekend in Columbus

The holiday season is upon is, and Columbus event planners are ready to celebrate this weekend. The Capriccio Youth Choir is performing a "Comfort & Joy" concert; the McCoy Center is screening "Home Alone"; and Easton Town Center is lighting up.

Trained dancers 'Escape to Wonderland'

This Otterbein University Theatre & Dance production is a fanciful take on Lewis Carroll’s "Alice in Wonderland." Titled “Escape to Wonderland," the show will follow Alice's journey to self-discovery through modern and jazz dance numbers. Expect appearances by classic characters Mad Hatter, Queen of Hearts, White Rabbit, Cheshire Cat and Caterpillar. Performances will take place 7:30 p.m. Thursday, 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday in the Fritsche Theatre at Cowan Hall, 30 S. Grove St., Westerville. Tickets are $22. Event to showcase musicians from across central Ohio

Saint Joseph Cathedral Music will honor singers, organists and directors from across central Ohio during the 2nd Annual Musicians Gold Mass. The performance will take place 7:30 p.m. Friday at Saint Joseph Cathedral, 212 E Broad St. facebook.com/SaintJosephCathedralMusic/

West African rhythms featured in concert for a cause

Fourth-generation master flute player Mamady “Tambou” Mansaré will headline a concert at 7 p.m. on Saturday at North Congregational United Church of Christ, 2040 W. Henderson Road.  Presented by the African Cultural Arts Institute in partnership with North Congregational UCC, the show will support women's cottage industries in Mansaré's homeland of Guinea, West Africa. Attendees can expect traditional drumming, dancing, singing and storytelling. Tickets are $20 for adults; children 12 and under get in free. (joycequest@hotmail.com)

Annual show celebrates the magic of miniatures

The longest-running miniature event in central Ohio returns 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at Northwest United Methodist Church, 5200 Riverside Dr. The Columbus Miniature Society 36th Annual Miniature Show and Sale will feature more than 150 displays by local artisans, as well as unique items available to purchase in the vendor hall ($5 at the door). The one-day extravaganza will also feature raffles, exhibits and lunch available to buy onsite. (columbusminiaturesociety.org)

Youth choir to help spread the holiday spirit

The Capriccio Youth Choir will help ring in the holiday season with its "Comfort & Joy" concert at 4 p.m. on Sunday at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1581 Cambridge Blvd. The choir includes young singers in second grade through 12th grade. A Christmas classic returns to the screen

Watching classic films is one of the quickest ways to get in the holiday spirit. For many, "Home Alone," is at the top of the list. The McCoy Center (100 East Dublin Granville Road) will show the 1990 comedy starring Macaulay Culkin at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Admission is free, but non-perishable food items or cash donations to support the 2023 Thanksforgiving 4 Miler charity run are encouraged. (mccoycenter.org)

Book club aims to inspire readers and writers

The next meeting of The Digressions Book Club will feature "If You Want To Write" by Brenda Ueland. The title is "a nonfiction treatise on writing by one of the form's best teachers," according to the club's founder, Scott Woods. Attendees will meet for a facilitated discussion at 3 p.m. on Sunday at Streetlight Guild, 1367 E. Main Street. Easton lights up

What could be the cure for post-daylight saving time darkness? Two million lights decorating Easton just might do the trick. Also featuring musical performances, caroling, a silent disco and a visit from Santa, "Easton's Grand Illumination" will take place 6-9 p.m. on Friday at Easton Town Center, 160 Easton Town Ctr. What's old is new again − at least for one special night at District West, 145 N 5th St. "Anisa's Drag Disco" will celebrate the 1970s beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday. Popular shopping event takes over Ohio History Connection

Jumpstart your holiday shopping at the annual Nobo Arts & Gifts Holiday 2023 event, which takes place at 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Ohio History Connection, 800 E. 17th Ave. (An "Exclusive VIP First Look" event takes place Friday at 6 p.m.) Local and national artists will sell their wares, music will be performed live, and appetizers will be served.
