Holiday House Tabletop Event returns Feb. 26 to Palm Beach to aid breast cancer research

In its second year at The Colony Hotel, Monday’s charitable event for breast cancer research certainly has legs — although at least a few of those legs will likely be covered by tablecloths.

No surprise there, because the latest edition of the Taking It to the Table Palm Beach Tabletop Event will again feature dining tables dressed by 15 design firms.

The event made its debut on the island a year ago after similar projects organized by its sponsor, Holiday House, became fundraising staples in New York City and The Hamptons. Holiday House’s events raise money for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Holiday House was founded by cancer survivor Iris Dankner, who is serving as a co-chairwoman for the Palm Beach event.

“I am so thrilled to have continued support from the wonderful Palm Beach community. It warms my heart to see the way they have welcomed our tabletop event with open arms,” Dankner said in a statement released to the Palm Beach Daily News.

So what will the tables in the hotel’s Coral Ballroom look like? Here are some descriptions provided by a few of the participants.

  • The design team from Mabley Handler Home & Design will create a “colorful and elegant beach picnic” for its space. “In collaboration with Morris & Co., we incorporated their iconic prints that have been reimagined in a fresh new color palette perfect for South Florida,” the company’s statement said. “With a Palm Beach ‘cabana’ vibe, an intimate lunch for four — with oversized director’s chairs and a matching canopy overhead — evokes a time of decadence and opulence.”

  • Ashley Stark Home’s table will feature “Shanghai Blossoms,” a fabric by Stark/Scalamandre. Its pink flowers represent “happiness, beauty and hope” as well as “new beginnings,” said the statement by designers Andrea Stark and Ashley Stark Kenner.

  • Designer Philip Gorrivan of Philip Gorrivan Design has taken inspiration from the past — the Italian Renaissance, Dutch Old Master paintings and European grand tours — but all “within a more modern, tropical backdrop.” His display will include fabrics from Scalamandre and tabletop items from Christofle. “The history of Palm Beach design is rooted in luxury, layers and tradition,” Gorrivan’s statement said. But the key, he added, is to mix a respect for the past with a modern sensibility.

  • A statement from the design team at Loveshackfancy says the company’s tablescape will celebrate summer’sendless lunches that ease into dinner under the stars. With this in mind, our latest Spring/Summer Home Collection marries vintage inspiration with modern hosting.” Embroidered cocktail napkins, for instance, are “meant to mix and match for that perfectly imperfect feel, along with bow napkin rings, plus small linen pillows.” The decorating scheme will feature soft pastels and florals.

Other designers and firms taking part at the fundraiser include Alexandra Naranjo Designs, Beach Glass Designs, Caitlin Kah Interiors, Caroline Rafferty Interiors, Design by Tula, Graph Design x Lisa Kaye Design, Home in Harmony Designs, Jennifer Garrigues, Inc., Lewis Miller Design, Monique Ogilvie Designs and The Lewis Design Group.

The fundraiser also will include several pop-up boutiques.

Holiday House has raised almost $2 million for breast cancer research since its inception, according to event organizers.
