The history behind Sean-Reid Foley's beautiful mustache

When the Toronto Blue Jays called up pitcher Sean-Reid Foley from the minors, the team added more than just a promising young arm.

The club gained a 23-year-old whose facial hair is anything but up-and-coming. The moment he made his major league debut, Reid Foley possessed one of the greatest mustaches to take the mound. And he had his father to thank for the inspiration.

“My dad was in the military for 30 years,” the righty shared. “He’s just always had a mustache and that’s kind of how we know to add in. One day in Low-A, I was just sitting there and I said, you know what? No one has a mustache. I’m going to get a mustache.”

Growing a “mo” is extremely bold, but I think Reid Foley has pulled it off quite nicely. When stacking it up against his dad’s lip sweater, the younger Foley still thinks there is some room for improvement.

“I will say this. I look nowhere close to as good as my dad with the mustache,” he admitted. “But it is definitely something different that not a lot of guys do, and my dad just kind of laughs at me with it.”
