Hillary Clinton brought her signature style to the opening night of “The Wiz” revival on Broadway on April 17. For the event, she put on a pair of low black bow-embellished shoes as she headed to the yellow carpet at the Marquis Theatre in New York City.

Clinton often opts for sensible shoes, preferring lower styles. The former Secretary of State wore a pair of short zip boots with a stable, short block heel when she appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” earlier this month. But she’s also been known to wear kitten heels, sneakers and other styles that prize comfort and stability as much as aesthetics. She’s worn brands like Ferragamo, Miu Miu, Gianvito Rossi, Reebok and Nike among others.

Others on the yellow carpet for “The Wiz” included stars Wayne Brady, Deborah Cox and Avery Wilson, as well as Ben Platt, Noah Galvin, Tamron Hall and Sherri Shepherd. Clinton is currently also doing business on Broadway, having signed on as a producer to “Suffs,” a musical about America’s 1913 Women’s Movement created by Shaina Taub.

About the Shoe

Clinton wore a low black, discreet shoe for the carpet. It featured a trendy pointed toe as well as a floppy bow across the vamp. Due to Clinton’s dark tights, the details of the shoe are hard to see but it also doesn’t distract from the rest of the look.

Bows are still trending

Bows as embellishments and detailing trended heavily a few years ago and are back, possibly as an offshoot of Barbiecore. Designers like Versace and Prada have been serving up various bow-bedecked shoes, which have in turn been worn by the likes of Michaela Jae Rodriguez, Selena Gomez and Victoria Beckham. For the spring 2024 runway shows, labels like Erdem, Bottega Veneta and Acne Studios all showed shoes with bow details. For her 50th birthday, Sarah Jessica Parker debuted a pair of bow-bedecked boots from her namesake line.
