Hilary Duff battles through the Manson murders in The Haunting of Sharon Tate trailer
What happens when you combine the star of Lizzie McGuire, the clairvoyant hook of That’s So Raven, and one of the most highly publicized murders in Hollywood history?
The answer is Hilary Duff’s The Haunting of Sharon Tate, a retelling of the titular starlet’s real-life slaying with an added twist: In this 1969-set version of her story, the then-pregnant Valley of the Dolls actress (Duff) is plagued by psychic visions of her impending doom at the hands of Charles Manson’s crazed followers.
Mean Girls and Celebrity Big Brother star Jonathan Bennett also appears in the Daniel Farrands-directed film as Jay Sebring, one of Tate’s companions who was also killed during the Manson-inspired home invasion that claimed Tate’s life.
Duff’s isn’t the only portrayal of Tate hitting movie screens this year; Oscar-nominated actress Margot Robbie will portray the ill-fated star in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which follows a fading television actor named Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) who, alongside his stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt), attempts to rise through the ranks of Tinseltown as Manson’s criminal endeavors cast a grim shadow over southern California.
