‘Hightown’: Riley Voelkel To Co-Star In Starz’s Opioid Epidemic Drama Series

The Originals alumna Riley Voelkel has been cast as a series regular opposite James Badge Dale and Monica Raymund in Hightown, Starz’s drama series from Rebecca Cutter, Gary Lennon and Jerry Bruckheimer TV.

Written and executive produced by Cutter, Hightown is a crime drama set amid the drug trade on Cape Cod, touched off when a body washes ashore and discovered by an irreverent National Marine Fisheries Service officer, Jackie Quinones (Raymund), who is determined to help solve the murder even if the state cops want her nowhere near the case.

Voelkel will play Renee Shaw. Born and raised on the Cape, she’s a survivor who has been shaped to believe relationships are transactional. Caustic at times, she keeps up an emotional wall only penetrable by her five-year-old son. The child is a product of her ongoing with relationship with Frankie, the biggest drug dealer on the Cape, who is currently serving time, which puts pressure on her from the police, leading her into a developing relationship with Detective Ray Abruzzo (Dale). She keeps her friends close and enemies closer.

Gary Lennon will executive produce with Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman and KristieAnne Reed from JBTV.

Voelkel, who played Freya Mikaelson on The Originals, recently wrapped a recurring role on Roswell, New Mexico. Her additional credits include The Newsroom for HBO, FX’s American Horror Story and Fox’s Glee. She’s repped by Abrams Artists Agency and managed by Luber Roklin.
