High School Senior in Coma After Being Hit in Head with Baseball Bat Inside Batting Cage

Gainesville High School student Jeremy MedinaA high school senior is in a coma after being hit in the head with a baseball bat inside a batting cage on campus.
On Wednesday, Gainesville High School in Georgia confirmed that Jeremy Medina was the student who had been injured during an incident at the school on Monday afternoon.
“Jeremy Medina, a senior at Gainesville High School and a pitcher and catcher for the 2022 baseball team, was accidentally struck in the head by a baseball bat while at the batting cage on campus,” a statement from the Gainesville City School System on Facebook, read.
The statement continued, “Medina remains in a coma at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Jeremy and his family are firm believers in Jesus Christ and His redemptive love, and are requesting prayer during this extremely difficult time.”
The tweet was accompanied by the hashtags, “#pray4jeremy #onegainesville.”
Details of what happened during the accident, which occurred at 1:20 p.m. local time on Monday, have not been released.
Gainesville High School is located northeast of Atlanta.

The baseball team of nearby Chestatee High School also shared their support for Medina on social media following the news.
“Jeremy is full of fight and grit on the baseball field and we pray he continues to fight with the same grit,” they wrote in a post shared on Facebook. “We continue to lift up those involved with the accident in our prayers and positive thoughts.”

The post was accompanied by a photo of Medina on the field.
A second post also read, “We are praying for our neighbor and baseball friend at Gainesville. The baseball community is tight and we send all our love and prayers to the players, coaches and Gainesville Baseball family.”
