In January 2021, Variety reported that Netflix had renewed the movie for a sequel. Since then, there had been no news of the same, which made fans anxious about the future of the film. Fortunately, there is some respite for them as director Robert Rodriguez provided an update about the awaited sequel. In an interview with Collider, he indicated being in a rush to make the same.
Rodriguez also stressed on the sequel’s story showcasing the children’s growth in their skills as superheroes. He said, “The bigger rush is to do a sequel for that because of the kids growing up. Although the script always kind of took that into account, they’re supposed to be kind of next-level.” He continued, “And I like the idea of kids seeing their favorite characters grow so exponentially on screen, and it makes them realize how time works to go.”
While there has been no official release date, fans can rest assured that Rodriguez will bring their favorite superkids once again for a We Can Be Heroes sequel. Viewers will have to wait and check out this space for more updates about the movie. If the sequel is still in its ideation stage, then it will take around a year. We can expect the movie to be released sometime in late 2024 or early 2025.
