Here's why Kris Kristofferson won't be at the CMA Awards to accept lifetime achievement award

The Country Music Association will honor iconic songwriter Kris Kristofferson with the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award on Wednesday at the 53rd Annual CMA Awards in Nashville.

But he won't be in attendance due to a previously booked gig on his touring schedule. Kristofferson plays Wednesday night at the Adler Theatre in Davenport, Iowa, notes country music website Taste of Country.

"Kris is being honored by the CMA next week," a post to his Facebook said. "Unfortunately he won’t be part of the festivities as he has a show that night."

Still, a slew of famed figures will celebrate Kristofferson at the ceremony. Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh, Dierks Bentley, Sheryl Crow, Chris Janson and John Osborne of Brothers Osborne notoriety are due to team up during the show for a Kristofferson tribute.
