I feel like I've been waiting years for this.
And that means you've got approximately 47 days to watch as many of the nominees as possible to prepare yourself for the big night.
ABC / Via giphy.com
Yes, Spike. That is super exciting.
So get hyped (like Meryl), because here are this year's 53 Oscar-nominated films and exactly where you can watch them:
ABC / Via giphy.com
1.Affairs of the Art
Nominations Received: One - Best Animated Short Film
What It's About: Joanna Quinn and Les Mills tell the story of an eccentric art-obsessed family.
Oscar Chances: Because the short films are largely unknowns at this point in the race, I'll be foregoing commentary on them moving forward.
Where to Stream: The New Yorker.
2.Ala Kachuu: Take and Run
Nominations Received: One - Best Live Action Short Film
What It's About: A Swiss short film about a Kyrgyz woman who wants to study in the big city, but is kidnapped and confronted with the choice of a forced marriage or an escape attempt.
Where to Stream: Currently unavailable but will premiere later on Shorts.TV.
3.Ascension
Nominations Received: One - Best Documentary Feature
What It's About: A study of the Chinese dream and how individuals are affected by productivity, consumption, and waste as they attempt to climb the daunting social ladder.
Oscar Chances: While the Documentary race is often hard to predict, it feels like Flee or Summer of Soul is likely to win here instead.
Where to Stream: Paramount+.
4.Attica
Nominations Received: One - Best Documentary Feature
What It's About: An in-depth look with eyewitness accounts of the Attica Prison Riot, the bloodiest prison riot in US history, and a flashpoint for prisoners' rights.
Oscar Chances: Again, it will be tough for this dock to outflank the buzzier heavy hitters.
Where to Stream: Showtime.
5.Audible
Nominations Received: One - Best Documentary Short Subject
What It's About: A black, deaf senior at Maryland School for the Deaf who hopes to lead his team as they defend their winning streak while struggling with the loss of a friend due to suicide.
Where to Stream: Netflix.
6.Being the Ricardos
Nominations Received: Three - Best Actor (Javier Bardem), Best Actress (Nicole Kidman), and Best Supporting Actor (J.K. Simmons)
What It's About: Lucille Ball (Nicole Kidman) spends a week trying to shoot an episode of I Love Lucy while also fending off the threat of a government investigation into her Communist allegiance, a rumor of her husband's infidelity, and an impending pregnancy.
Oscar Chances: Aaron Sorkin wrote and directed the film, which critics were lukewarm on, but it has gained steam throughout Oscar season. The two non-Kidman acting noms were surprises, but the fact it didn't land a single other nomination shows a bit of weakness. The film's only real hope for a trophy is if Nicole Kidman can fend off the rest of this year's leading ladies.
Where to Stream: Prime Video.
7.Belfast
Nominations Received: Seven - Best Picture, Best Director (Kenneth Branagh), Best Supporting Actor (Ciaran Hinds), Best Supporting Actress (Judi Dench), Best Original Song ("Down to Joy" by Van Morrrison), Best Sound, and Best Original Screenplay
What It's About: A little boy (Jude Hill) grows up in Northern Ireland during the Troubles in a Kenneth Branagh written and directed black-and-white film that's based on his own boyhood.
Oscar Chances: A stellar cast including Judi Dench, Jamie Dornan, Ciaran Hinds, and Caitriona Balfe play the parents and grandparents who must decide whether to stay in Ireland or move to Britain. It's fighting with The Power of the Dog for Best Picture and could also scoop up other awards if the Academy goes all in.
Where to Stream: Rent it on Prime Video.
8.Bestia
Nominations Received: One - Best Animated Short Film
What It's About: A Chilean claymation film about a woman working for Chilean Intelligence Directorate — the secret police for a Fascist dictator — and her relationship with her dog as she tries to reconcile her actions.
Where to Stream: Currently unavailable but will premiere later on Shorts.TV.
9.Boxballet
Nominations Received: One - Best Animated Short Film
What It's About: A Russian animated short about a delicate ballerina and a gruff boxer who must examine their similarities and differences when their paths cross.
Where to Stream: Currently unavailable but will premiere later on Shorts.TV.
10.CODA
Nominations Received: Three - Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor (Troy Kotsur), and Best Adapted Screenplay
What It's About: A hearing teenage girl (Emilia Jones) in an all-deaf family is torn between following her passion for music, which her family doesn't understand, and helping them keep their struggling fishing business afloat as their translator and connection to the outside world.
Oscar Chances: It was acquired out of Sundance in a record-breaking deal and has garnered praise for its supporting performances from Troy Kotsur and Marlee Matlin. Though competition is stiff, there remains an outside chance that CODA could take home gold for Screenplay and/or Supporting Actor.
Where to Stream: Apple TV+.
11.Coming 2 America
Nominations Received: One - Best Makeup and Hairstyling
What It's About: In the sequel to Coming to America, Eddie Murphy reprises his role as Prince Akeem Joffer of Zamunda, who must return to America to meet his long lost son, the heir to his throne.
Oscar Chances: Not much. It's a bit of a shock that this sequel from what feels like fifteen years ago got a nomination at all.
Where to Stream: Prime Video.
12.Cruella
Nominations Received: Two - Best Makeup and Hairstyling and Best Costume Design
What It's About: Before Cruella de Vil (Emma Stone) was skinning puppies to make coats, she was a low-level fashion intern trying to give her boss (Emma Thompson) a mental breakdown by ruining her business and becoming London's premiere designer.
Oscar Chances: It's this versus Dune for the Costume Oscar, so let's see if Disney can pull it out.
Where to Stream: Disney+.
13.Cyrano
Nominations Received: One - Best Costume Design
What It's About: A musical retelling of Cyrano de Bergerac with Peter Dinklage starring as the leading swashbuckler.
Oscar Chances: The screenplay was written by his wife, Erica Schmidt, with music from The National, but it was the period costumes that snuck the film into the Oscar race.
Where to Stream: Currently in theaters. Buy tickets.
14.Don't Look Up
Nominations Received: Four - Best Picture, Best Film Editing, Best Original Score, and Best Original Screenplay
What It's About: A pair of scientists (Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence) go on a truth telling mission to save the world when they realize a meteor is headed straight at Earth in this global warming satire from Adam McKay.
Oscar Chances: While the Academy has loved McKay in the past, the mixed critical reception to this film left it with some key snubs (no DiCaprio, Directing, or Ariana Grande in Original Song noms) and will probably go home empty-handed on Awards night.
Where to Stream: Netflix.
15.The Dress
Nominations Received: One - Best Live Action Short Film
What It's About: A Polish short film about a maid at a rundown hotel in Poland who struggles with loneliness until a truck driver begins making repeated visits to the hotel.
Where to Stream: Currently unavailable but will premiere later on Shorts.TV.
16.Drive My Car
Nominations Received: Four - Best Picture, Best Director (Ryusuke Hamaguchi), Best International Feature Film, and Best Adapted Screenplay
What It's About: Japan's entry for Best International Feature is based on a Haruki Murakami story and follows a widowed actor as he sets out to direct a production of a play while being haunted by the memory of his dead wife.
Oscar Chances: The broadening international faction of the Academy clearly put their weight behind this film, pushing it not only into the expanded Best Picture lineup but also into the more competitive screenplay and director races. Don't underestimate this film taking home multiple Oscars in addition to the International Feature trophy it seemingly has locked up.
Where to Stream: Currently in theaters. Buy tickets.
17.Dune
Nominations Received: 10 - Best Picture, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Film Editing, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Original Score, Best Production Design, Best Sound, Best Visual Effects, and Best Adapted Screenplay
What It’s About: Based on the classic sci-fi novel by Frank Herbert, the film follows a noble aristocratic house that moves to a desert planet covered with giant worms to help rule. Magical people and an assassination attempt are also in the works.
Oscar Chances: Look for this one to walk away with several below-the-line trophies as its visually stunning shots are unlike anything else nominated this year and should appeal to multiple branches of the Academy.
Where to Stream: Rent it on Amazon Prime Video.
18.Encanto
Nominations Received: Three - Best Animated Feature Film, Best Original Score, and Best Original Song ("Dos Orugutas" by Lin-Manuel Miranda)
What It's About: In the newest Disney Animation film with music from Lin-Manuel Miranda, a girl sets out to help her magical family retain their magical powers when they start to lose them.
Oscar Chances: Encanto is in a tight race with Luca and The Mitchells vs the Machines for Animated Feature, and with Beyoncé and Billie Eilish in Best Song. Should Miranda win, however, he will EGOT so stay on the lookout for that.
Where to Stream: Disney+.
19.The Eyes of Tammy Faye
Nominations Received: Two - Best Actress (Jessica Chastain) and Best Makeup and Hairstyling
What It's About: Tammy Faye (Jessica Chastain) and Jim Bakker, (Andrew Garfield) a pair of Midwestern Evangelicals rise to fame as Christian variety show hosts only to get embroiled in affairs, fraud, and excessive Diet Coke drinking.
Oscar Chances: It could easily take home the Makeup and Hairstyling as the movie leans heavily on Tammy Faye's increasingly garish eyeshadow.
Where to Stream: HBO Max.
20.Flee
Nominations Received: Three - Best Animated Feature Film, Best Documentary Feature, and Best International Feature Film
What It's About: The animated documentary is also the Danish entry for Best International Feature Film. It tells the story of a gay Afghani refugee and his family as they attempt to flee from Afghanistan to Europe via Russia.
Oscar Chances: It is also the first film ever to be nominated in all three of these categories and faces the least competition in Best Documentary, where it is likely to win.
Where to Stream: Rent it on Prime Video.
21.Four Good Days
Nominations Received: One - Best Original Song ("Somehow You Do" by Diane Warren)
What It's About: Glenn Close and Mila Kunis play a mother/daughter pair as the younger struggles with drug addiction and returns home begging for help in an attempt to get sober.
Oscar Chances: Diane Warren is a perennial nominee (and 13-time loser) in Best Song, so let's watch her give this another swing.
Where to Stream: Hulu.
22.Free Guy
Nominations Received: One - Best Visual Effects
What It’s About: A non-playable character (Ryan Reynolds) inside a video game becomes sentient at the same time the game creators are trying to delete the game.
Oscar Chances: Such a delightful film, and so happy it is now "Oscar-nominated" even though it's unlikely to win.
Where to Stream: Rent it on Prime Video.
23.The Hand of God
Nominations Received: One - Best International Feature Film
What It's About: This coming-of-age saga, and the Italian Oscar submission, follows a teenage boy in Naples — played by Filippo Scotti (in one of the best performances from last year) — as he looks for meaning and purpose in a career, sex, and his family.
Oscar Chances: With Drive My Car and The Worst Person in the World in this category, it will certainly be an uphill battle for the win.
Where to Stream: Netflix.
24.House of Gucci
Nominations Received: One - Best Makeup and Hairstyling
What It's About: Lady Gaga stars as Patrizia Reggiani, the woman who infiltrated the Gucci fashion empire only to be thrown out and have her husband assassinated in an act of revenge.
Oscar Chances: The Lady Gaga snub has my blood boiling. The Jared Leto snub is a blessing from above. Still shocked Lady Gaga didn't do an Original Song for this.
Where to Stream: Rent it on Prime Video.
25.King Richard
Nominations Received: Six - Best Picture, Best Actor (Will Smith), Best Supporting Actress (Aunjanue Ellis), Best Film Editing, Best Original Song ("Be Alive" by Beyonce), and Best Original Screenplay.
What It's About: Venus and Serena Williams's dad (Will Smith), a nutty eccentric hellbent on his girls becoming tennis stars, challenges the white elitist establishment on his daughters' rise to fame.
Oscar Chances: Will Smith is the definitive frontrunner in Best Actor, but I’m much more interested in seeing if Queen B will win a much-deserved Oscar. She's got to break the James Bond stranglehold on the category, but I believe in her.
Where to Stream: Rent it on Prime Video.
26.Lead Me Home
Nominations Received: One - Best Documentary Short Subject
What It's About: Shot in California, this short examines the rising population of unhoused individuals in the US, telling the stories of several of these subjects as they try to overcome a system set up to encourage their failure.
Where to Stream: Netflix.
27.Licorice Pizza
Nominations Received: Three - Best Picture, Best Director (Paul Thomas Anderson), and Best Original Screenplay
What It's About: A child actor/entrepreneur (Cooper Hoffman) and an aimless twenty-something (Alana Haim) strike up an unlikely friendship as they roam around Los Angeles together in Paul Thomas Anderson's newest film.
Oscar Chances: Sort of interesting that the three categories it got nominations in are all PTA categories and it was blanked everywhere else. He's not winning Picture or Director, but maybe this could be his year to finally win an Oscar in Screenplay.
Where to Stream: Currently in theaters. Buy tickets.
28.The Long Goodbye
Nominations Received: One - Best Live Action Short Film
What It's About: This British short starring Riz Ahmed takes a look at a family going about their daily life until an alt-right march shows up to their front door.
Where to Stream: Vimeo.
29.The Lost Daughter
Nominations Received: Three - Best Actress (Olivia Colman), Best Supporting Actress (Jessie Buckley), and Best Adapted Screenplay
What It's About: In Maggie Gyllenhaal's directorial debut based on an Elena Ferrante novella, Olivia Colman plays a prickly professor on holiday who butts up against a family staying at the same resort as her.
Oscar Chances: Colman could easily win her second Oscar this year, but the Academy is sending some mixed signals. The Buckley nom is a surprise, but it missing Best Picture speaks to a weakness overall.
Where to Stream: Netflix.
30.Luca
Nominations Received: One - Best Animated Feature Film
What It's About: In Pixar's latest, a pair of sea monsters who turn into humans on land, run away from home, and live in a tiny town that hates sea monsters.
Oscar Chances: Never underestimate Pixar in this category, but it's got some stiff competition this year from two other Disney films.
Where to Stream: Disney+.
31.Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom
Nominations Received: One - Best International Feature Film
What It's About: The Bhutanese submission, this follows a schoolteacher-in-training who is sent to a high altitude, poor community to teach a group of students, who happen to share a classroom with a yak.
Oscar Chances: This is by far the least known film in this category, so a win seems unlikely, but you can never underestimate the power of a cute animal and cute kids.
Where to Stream: Currently in theaters. Buy tickets.
32.The Mitchells Vs. The Machines
Nominations Received: One - Best Animated Feature Film
What It’s About: A dysfunctional family full of klutzes somehow must save the world from a deadly robot attack in Netflix's bid for Best Animated Feature.
Oscar Chances: It's got a 98% on Rotten Tomatoes and seems to be Disney's only competition in the category.
Where to Stream: Netflix.
33.Nightmare Alley
Nominations Received: Four - Best Picture, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, and Best Production Design
What It's About: Bradley Cooper plays a con man who first joins a circus full of colorful characters before trying to dupe a local businessman with a violent past in Guillermo del Toro's follow up to The Shape of Water.
Oscar Chances: It squeaked into Best Picture, but seems like a long shot for any wins unless the Academy loves the circus set and gives them Production Design.
Where to Stream: Hulu.
34.No Time To Die
Nominations Received: Three - Best Original Song ("No Time to Die" by Billie Eilish), Best Sound, and Best Visual Effects
What It's About: Daniel Craig's James Bond is out here trying to save the world from some kind of nanobot attack while looking dapper, drinking martinis, and chatting up the ladies.
Oscar Chances: Adele and Sam Smith won Oscars for the last two Bond songs. We shall see if Billie can make it three for three.
Where to Stream: Rent it on Prime Video.
35.On My Mind
Nominations Received: One - Best Live Action Short Film
What It's About: In this Danish short, a man has to sing a karaoke song for his wife immediately. You'll find out why.
Where to Stream: Currently unavailable but will premiere later on Shorts.TV.
36.Parallel Mothers
Nominations Received: Two - Best Actress (Penelope Cruz) and Best Original Score
What It's About: While not the Spanish submission for International Feature, Pedro Almodovar's latest film tells the story of two mothers giving birth on the same day, one of whom is played by Penelope Cruz.
Oscar Chances: For an under-the-radar foreign film that wasn't even submitted by Spain, two nominations is quite impressive.
Where to Stream: Currently in theaters. Buy tickets.
37.Please Hold
Nominations Received: One - Best Live Action Short Film
What It's About: In a sci-fi satire, a man falsely arrested and imprisoned by an automated system must attempt to fight through the computerized bureaucracy for freedom.
Where to Stream: Currently unavailable but will premiere later on Shorts.TV.
38.The Power of the Dog
Nominations Received: 12 - Best Picture, Best Director (Jane Campion), Best Actor (Benedict Cumberbatch), Best Supporting Actor (Jesse Plemons), Best Supporting Actor (Kodi Smit-McPhee), Best Supporting Actress (Kirsten Dunst), Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Original Score, Best Production Design, Best Sound, and Best Adapted Screenplay
What It's About: Two brothers (one sweet (Jesse Plemons), the other ridiculously vile (Benedict Cumberbatch)) live on a Montana ranch surrounded by cattle, anthrax, and regret.
Oscar Chances: The Jane Campion-directed juggernaut snatched the most nominations this year, and is likely to win in multiple categories including Picture, Director, acting, and below-the-line categories. The Jesse Plemons nom is a surprising show of strength and with the exception of perhaps a Costume Design nom, it landed everything it could have.
Where to Stream: Netflix.
39.The Queen of Basketball
Nominations Received: One - Best Documentary Short Subject
What It's About: A New York Times Op-Doc production that tells the largely unknown story of Lusia Harris, an incredible basketball player who competed in the Olympics, was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame, and was drafted into the NBA.
Where to Stream: The New York Times.
40.Raya and the Last Dragon
Nominations Received: One - Best Animated Feature Film
What It's About: A girl named Raya (duh) who is looking for the last dragon (duh) so she can banish some evil spirits from her world.
Oscar Chances: It's unlikely to win against Disney's other two films this year.
Where to Stream: Disney+.
41.Robin Robin
Nominations Received: One - Best Animated Short Film
What It's About: In a British stop-motion animated short, a robin who is raised by a family of mice tries to prove that she can be a good mouse by swiping something from a farmer's house guarded by a cat.
Where to Stream: Netflix.
42.Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
Nominations Received: One - Best Visual Effects
What It's About: A parking valet (Simu Liu) and his slacker friend (Awkwafina) are drawn into superhero battles when his father tasks him with finding a mythical village.
Oscar Chances: Marvel usually lands at least one nom in this category, but a superhero movie hasn't won since Spider-Man 2.
Where to Stream: Disney+.
43.Spencer
Nominations Received: One - Best Actress (Kristen Stewart)
What It's About: Princess Diana (Kristen Stewart) has a mental breakdown at the royal family's Christmas party (which may or may not have happened in real life because this is "a fable").
Oscar Chances: This was my favorite film of the year, and while I'm happy to see Stewart in here (and she should win if the Academy is smart), I'm flabbergasted that the film's exquisite costumes didn't get a nomination when they should have won the whole damn thing.
Where to Stream: Hulu.
44.Spider-Man: No Way Home
Nominations Received: One - Best Visual Effects
What It's About: The third Tom Holland Spider-man film in the MCU follows Peter Parker and co., as a break in the metaverse sees his world flooded with past Spider-Men and their villains.
Oscar Chances: It was the biggest blockbuster of the year, so will that help its chances of beating Dune?
Where to Stream: Currently in theaters. Buy tickets.
45.Summer of Soul (...or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised)
Nominations Received: One - Best Documentary Feature Film
What It's About: Questlove's documentary detailing the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival, which despite lasting weeks and drawing massive crowds was overshadowed in history by Woodstock.
Oscar Chances: If anyone is going to beat Flee, it's this music doc.
Where to Stream: Hulu.
46.Three Songs for Benazir
Nominations Received: One - Best Documentary Short Subject
What It's About: A rare love story set against the backdrop of an Afghan displaced people camp, this doc tells the story of Shaista and Benazir as he navigates his love for her, his desire to start a family, and his dream of joining the army.
Where to Stream: Netflix.
47.Tick, Tick...Boom!
Nominations Received: Two - Best Actor (Andrew Garfield) and Best Film Editing
What It's About: Jonathan Larson, the creator of Rent, wrote a tiny little semi-autobiographical musical about a man writing a musical, which Lin-Manuel Miranda revamped and turned into a musical movie starring Andrew Garfield as Larson. (It's slightly complicated.)
Oscar Chances: Film Editing is usually seen as a bellwether for Best Picture so it's a bit surprising that the film only landed the two nominations. Fingers crossed that Garfield somehow sneaks past Will Smith and Benedict Cumberbatch for the win though.
Where to Stream: Netflix.
48.The Tragedy of Macbeth
Nominations Received: Three - Best Actor (Denzel Washington), Best Cinematography, and Best Production Design
What It's About: Joel Coen retells the famous Shakespeare play with Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand playing the power-hungry couple of Scots.
Oscar Chances: Not surprising that either Denzel or the film's black-and-white cinematography got in. The Academy loves both. No Frances, however, speaks to weakness.
Where to Stream: Apple TV+.
49.West Side Story
Nominations Received: Seven - Best Picture, Best Director (Steven Spielberg), Best Supporting Actress (Ariana DeBose), Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Production Design, and Best Sound
What It's About: Stephen Spielberg's retelling of the famed Best Picture-winning musical (and the original stage musical) based on Romeo and Juliet. It follows a pair of rival gangs and a tragic young couple ripped apart by the feud.
Oscar Chances: This is a bit of an enigma in the race so far. While critics loved it, it did poorly in the box office, and has only performed okay on the awards circuit. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the 2021 The Irishman which goes home empty-handed with many noms.
Where to Stream: Currently in theaters. Buy tickets.
50.When We Were Bullies
Nominations Received: One - Best Documentary Short Subject
What It's About: A filmmaker reexamines an instance of bullying that took place in his class 50 years ago by interviewing his old classmates and their teacher.
Where to Stream: Currently unavailable but will premiere later on Shorts.TV.
51.The Windshield Wiper
Nominations Received: One - Best Animated Short Film
What It's About: A series of animated vignettes answering one man's question: "What is love?"
Where to Stream: Currently unavailable but will premiere later on Shorts.TV.
52.The Worst Person in the World
Nominations Received: Two - Best International Feature Film and Best Original Screenplay
What It's About: In Joachim Trier's latest film (and the Norwegian entry), Julie (Renate Reinsve) floats aimlessly through life, juggling a pair of relationships and looking for purpose.
Oscar Chances: It's clearly a strong contender with the push into Screenplay, but can it overcome Drive My Car in the International race? It seems unlikely.
Where to Stream: Currently in theaters. Buy tickets.
53.Writing with Fire
Nominations Received: One - Best Documentary Feature
What It's About: A group of low caste Indian women who run a news agency — reporting hard-hitting journalism with only their iPhones — tackle some of the toughest stories in the country.
Oscar Chances: It's much harder to watch than many of the docs, which have been streaming for months. Unless this one picks up some steam, I think it will get lost in the shuffle.
Where to Stream: Coming to PBS on March 28.
