Austin's Black Pumas, whose sophomore record is out Oct. 27, are "heading back to where it all started": They're playing C-Boys Heart & Soul on Nov. 2, a show sponsored by Austin's NPR-affiliated KUTX.

This is a rare chance to see the international superstars in a small room; they started their global run with a residency at the South Congress club in 2018. American-Statesman music writer Deborah Sengupta Stith wrote one of the first features on the new group anchored by Adrian Quesada and Eric Burton.

Where it started: The Black Pumas Adrian Quesada, left, and Eric Burton on April 5, 2018, at C-Boy's Heart & Soul on South Congress Avenue. Their April 2018 residency launched their quick rise to global stardom.

Sengupta Stith recently caught up with both Quesada and Burton, in the weeks in the runup to sophomore album "Chronicles of a Diamond." She says that record is even better than their excellent self-titled debut.

"'Chronicles of a Diamond' by Black Pumas will go down in history as one of the defining soul albums of our generation. This is not hyperbole or hometown bias. The album is an obvious Grammy contender for the Austin group who picked up seven nominations for their 2019 self-titled debut (and the deluxe re-release). But beyond that, the 10-track collection contains timeless gems that feel destined to adorn the fabric of American life for years to come," she writes.

Read the rest of that profile, which also delves into the band's decision to pause touring last year.

But how can I see Black Pumas at C-Boys?

It's sure to be a special show. The announcements says it will be broadcast live at 8 p.m. on KUTX. If you want to be in the room, there will be a drawing for some tickets and otherwise it will be "first-come, first-served" at the door.

You must enter the giveaway by noon Nov. 1 and be 21 or older to win. Details at kutx.org.
