Here's How Much 'Grease' Car Signed By Olivia Newton-John Could Sell For at Auction

A piece of movie history could be yours—for the right price.

The iconic car from the classic 1978 film Grease is being auctioned off at the Mecum Auctions event in Monterey, California, on August 20.

The black custom 1949 Mercury dubbed the “Hell’s Chariot” was driven by rival Craterface (Dennis Stewart) in a race against Danny Zuko’s (John Travolta) “Greased Lightning.”

The hard top—which was turned into a convertible for the film—was painted black and features the classic flames along with razor hubcaps.

It was built and customized by legendary movie car designer Eddie Paul of Customs by Eddie Paul. It even includes a notarized letter signed by Paul himself identifying the car as the one built specifically for the Paramount Studios film, per the auction.

After appearing on Grease, it also appeared in Streets of Fire and Used Cars before “retiring.” It was later found at a car shop in Huntington Beach and restored by current owner, Dave DeSure, who had it authenticated and restored to its original glory.

It then got another chance in Hollywood, appearing in several advertising campaigns and the first scene of Grease Live! on Fox.

Not to mention it was Sandy’s (Olivia Newton-John) ride for opening night of her residency at the Flamingo hotel in Las Vegas.

The auction comes on the heels of Newton-John’s death on August 8, which makes it more desirable as it features the late actress's signature on the side, along with an autograph from director Randal Kleiser on the dash.

Prior to her death, it was estimated to be worth $600,000 to $750,000, though one can expect the price tag to see a significant bump.
