"I thought I just wanted to be a cook to be a cook. I didn't know I had this natural [talent] for creating things that were unique," Jonathan Whitener, chef and owner of Los Angeles eatery Here's Looking at You, tells The Hollywood Reporter.
The restaurant's managing partner, Lien Ta, admitted, "Jonathan and I, we didn't like each other at first, but we started to like each other later." Ta prides Here's Looking at You as being a "small" spot with "that neighborhood feel, but nice enough that it could also be that special occasion spot."
The cooking is about Whitener's life and history of growing up in California, which he readily displayed in a fried pork belly dish in the above video.
