The new Mean Girls musical comedy is reimagining classic characters with fresh faces.

New stars are filling the roles once played by actresses including Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams and Amy Poehler in Tina Fey's original flick, which was released in 2004. And while things might look a little different at North Shore High School 20 years later, the 2024 cast isn't completely unrecognizable. Plus, a couple veterans are back to reprise the parts they originated.

From the seasoned stars to the up-and-comers, find out where you know Angourie Rice, Reneé Rapp, Christopher Briney and their Mean Girls castmates from.

Angourie Rice

Australian actress Angourie Rice made her name in several feature films before she inherited the lead role of Cady Heron from Lindsay Lohan. In 2016, Rice shared the screen with Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe in The Nice Guys. She also appeared as Betty Brandt in Spider-Man: Homecoming and its sequels Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man: No Way Home.

She starred in the 2018 rom-com Every Day and the 2022 coming-of-age flick Honor Society, but Rice's appearances on TV may also ring a bell. She costarred with Miley Cyrus in an episode of Black Mirror and with Kate Winslet in Mare of Easttown.

Most recently, the actress played Jennifer Garner's daughter in the AppleTV+ miniseries The Last Thing He Told Me.

Reneé Rapp

Reneé Rapp

If Reneé Rapp looks especially comfortable playing queen bee Regina George, it's because she's a seasoned member of The Plastics. Rapp — who released her debut solo album Snow Angel in 2023 — led the Broadway musical adaptation of Mean Girls in the role originated by Rachel McAdams in 2004.

On the smaller screen, Rapp also played Leighton on Mindy Kaling's MAX series The Sex Lives of College Girls.

Tina Fey

Tina Fey

In 2004, Tina Fey originated the role of Ms. Norbury, the same math teacher she's reprising in the musical remake 20 years later. Behind the scenes, Fey — who got her start on Saturday Night Live also wrote the classic Y2K film.

Beyond the Mean Girls universe, the comedian has garnered laughs in films like Baby Mama, Admission and Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. On TV, she starred as Liz Lemon in the hit sitcom 30 Rock from 2006 to 2013. Fey has also made cameos in the shows she's produced and written, like Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Girls5eva. She recently stepped in to play podcast host Cinda Canning on Only Murders in the Building.

If you can't place Fey's face in any TV shows or movies, you might recognize her as the co-host of four Golden Globe Awards alongside pal and fellow SNL alumna Amy Poehler.

Jon Hamm

Jon Hamm

Jon Hamm's career spans a few decades and several major projects, but he's best known for playing Don Draper in the AMC series Mad Men. Hamm's performance earned him two Golden Globes and a Primetime Emmy for lead actor in a drama.

Before he stepped in as Coach Carr in Mean Girls (Dwayne Hill in the first film), Hamm spent plenty of time on the silver screen. He joined the iconic ensemble cast of Bridesmaids as Ted, Kristen Wiig's character's dismissive casual hookup. He worked with Ben Affleck in the 2010 thriller The Town and starred in the sports movie Million Dollar Arm. In 2022, Hamm played Beau "Cyclone" Simpson in the star-studded hit Top Gun: Maverick.

On the small screen, he most recently appeared as Jennifer Aniston's love interest on The Morning Show, and has popped up on Tina Fey projects including 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

Busy Philipps

Busy Philipps

She's not just a cool mom — Busy Philipps is a Hollywood veteran. She's known for her parts on shows like Freaks and Geeks, Dawson's Creek, ER and Cougartown, and she currently stars in Tina Fey's Girls5eva.

The former Busy Tonight talk show host follows Amy Poehler's performance as Regina George's overly keen mom in the original Mean Girls, but Philipps is an experienced big-screen jokester: she's starred in the comedies White Chicks, He's Just Not That Into You and I Don't Know How She Does It.

Ashley Park

Ashley Park

Fans of Emily in Paris know Ashley Park as Mindy Chen, a friend of the titular ex-pat played by Lily Collins. She appeared in another Netflix show, Beef, and as a recurring character in Hulu's Only Murders in the Building. Park also played the lead in the 2023 comedy Joy Ride.

The actress isn't new to North Shore High School; Park earned a Tony nomination for her performance as Gretchen Wieners in the Mean Girls musical. In the 2024 film, however, she steps into a different role as a French teacher by the familiar name of Madame Park.

Christopher Briney

Christopher Briney

In Mean Girls, he's Aaron Samuels, Cady's dreamy classmate who famously asks her for the date on one fateful October 3rd (shout out to Jonathan Bennett). But Christopher Briney first started making fans swoon as Conrad Fisher the series in The Summer I Turned Pretty.

Jenna Fischer

Jenna Fischer

If Cady's mom looks at all familiar, you likely know her fromThe Office. Jenna Fischer played receptionist Pam Beesly on all nine seasons of the memorable NBC series. She also hosts a rewatch podcast for The Office with her costar Angela Kinsey.

Fischer also appeared in Blades of Glory and Hall Pass, among other big-screen comedies.

Ana Gasteyer originated the role of Cady's mom in the 2004 film.

Auli'i Cravalho

Auli'i Cravalho

Disney fans might recognize Auli'i Cravalho's voice before they place her face. Before she took on the part of Cady's pal Janice — handed down from Lizzy Caplan in the 2004 original — Cravalho voiced Moana in the 2016 animated movie. The Hawaiian star's live-action filmography includes parts in the NBC show Rise, in Netflix's 2020 film All Together Now and, most recently, in Prime Video's 2023 series The Power.

A few years after she belted out hits in Moana, Cravalho led as Ariel in ABC's The Little Mermaid Live!

Jaquel Spivey makes his feature film debut as Damian in Mean Girls (the role originated by Daniel Franzese), but he's no stranger to the spotlight. The actor's performance in the Broadway musical A Strange Loop earned him a Drama Desk Award, a Tony nomination and a Grammy nomination.

Tim Meadows

Tim Meadows

Saturday Night Live alumnus Tim Meadows is back to reprise his role as North Shore High School's Principal Duvall. Besides his role in the original Mean Girls, the actor boasts parts in a number of hit comedies like The Benchwarmers, Semi-Pro, Grown Ups and Jack & Jill.

On TV, Meadows also appeared on several episodes of The Goldbergs as Andre Glascott and starred in the spinoff Schooled as the same character.

Avantika

Avantika

Amanda Seyfried was new to film when she played Plastics member Karen, but Avantika brings years of experience to the role. The actress starred in the Disney Channel Original Movie Spin and in the 2022 comedy Senior Year, which also featured her Mean Girls costar Angourie Rice.

Bebe Wood

Bebe Wood

Following in the footsteps of Lacey Chabert, Bebe Wood stars as Gretchen Wieners in the latest adaptation of Mean Girls. Prior to the musical, Wood has mainly appeared on TV shows, with roles in The New Normal, The Real O'Neals and Love, Victor. She also made cameos in episodes of shows like 30 Rock, Veep and See Dad Run.
