Here's your guide to the Star City Film Festival in Sheboygan this weekend

SHEBOYGAN — The Star City Film Festival will bring films and filmmakers to Sheboygan this weekend.

The three-day event will be hosted at Blue Harbor Resort, 725 Blue Harbor Resort Drive, by Sacred Noise Society, Inc. and Festival Director Katie O’Regan.

The festival will feature filmmakers and actor Thaao Penghlis, known for his roles in the soap opera “Days of Our Lives” and the 1988 “Mission: Impossible” television series. The Star City Film Festival was hosted in Iowa last year.

Here’s a preview of the film lineup, schedule outline and what to know about tickets.

When is the film festival?

Nov. 10-12.

What are some films that will be screened?

Sheboygan native Bethany Berg’s feature film “Everything Fun You Could Possibly Do in Aledo, Illinois” will screen at 7 p.m. Nov. 10. Berg will talk after the film.

“Savitr,” a short film by fourth- and fifth-graders from Crestwood Elementary School in Madison, will screen at 6 p.m. Nov. 10.

There will also be showings of “Maladjustment” from Director Anatasha Blakely and “Safe Space” from Director Scott Klumb on Nov. 11. The films are in veterans and autism film categories, respectively.

How many films will be shown at the event?

More than 30 films will be screened, spanning feature films, short films and web series.

What is the schedule of events?

Films will be shown Nov. 10 and 11, followed by awards Nov. 12.

Here are more details:

Nov. 10: An eight-film showcase, welcome from Thaao Penghlis

Check-in starts at 5 p.m. Festival Director Katie O’Regan will share opening remarks at 6 p.m.

Five films will screen at the beginning of the evening.

At 8:30 p.m., Thaao Penghlis will welcome guests and read the poem “Ithaca.” This will be followed by three more film screenings.

Nov. 11: Film screenings, mayoral welcome and red carpet event

The first part of the day is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. During that period, 25 films will be shown across two theaters. Some showings will be followed by discussions with the filmmakers.

At 4:15 p.m., there will be a script reading of “Warrior” by Dale Deacon to commemorate Veterans Day.

At 5:30 p.m., the red-carpet event will commence. There will be drinks and appetizers along with a welcome from Sheboygan Mayor Ryan Sorenson. Sorenson will also give Penghlis an honorary key to the city.

This will be followed by a dance from Kayla Schetter to “Sacred Noise,” written and performed by Katie O’Regan, and a performance by Penghlis from his memoirs and podcast “The Lost Treasure."

At 8 p.m., the band Butch and Sundance will perform. Two films will screen again at the end of the night around 9 p.m.

Nov. 12: Awards ceremony and acting class

An awards ceremony will be at noon and an acting workshop from 1 to 3 p.m.
