So, here are some of the biggest musical changes from the 1989 animated The Little Mermaid to the 2023 live-action version:

Note: I'm focusing on songs with lyrics, though there are some changes to the score.

ADDED: "For the First Time."

AXED: "Les Poissons."

The 2023 version of The Little Mermaid has far fewer dead fish. Allow me to present a theory: I've heard it said that the union of Eric and Ariel in the original movie would spell economic catastrophe for Eric's kingdom, which appears to be a fishing community. I'm not saying that's why the new Eric's island seems to be more interested in the trade of non-fish goods, I'm just saying that the correlation is there. Anyway, there is no

AMENDED: "Kiss the Girl."

ADDED: "Wild Uncharted Waters."

AXED: "Daughters of Triton."

This tracks with some of the changes made to the opening, where there is no concert for Ariel to have missed. Hell, Sebastian isn't the palace composer in this one. Maybe that's harder to put in a song? (It's not.)Side note: Anyone else have a The Little Mermaid video game where the opening menu had

AMENDED: "Poor Unfortunate Souls."

ADDED: "The Scuttlebutt."

ADDED/AMENDED: "Part of Your World (Reprise II)."
