Unleash the beast!

With just over a year to go before J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World returns to the big screen, Muggles are being treated to their first look at next fall’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The early preview comes courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, whose new issue features star Eddie Redmayne in the cloak and three-piece wool suit that, with any luck, will become as iconic as Harry Potter’s Hogwarts robes.

In Rowling’s more narrative adaptation of her own 2001 guide to the magical creatures within the hit book franchise, the Oscar-winning star of The Theory of Everything and buzzy contender The Danish Girl plays Newt Scamander, a “magizoologist.” The film is set in 1926 New York, where Scamander, a frequent world traveler, stops so that he can pay a visit to the Magical Congress of the United States of America. The MACUSA, as it’s known, is the equivalent of the very powerful (and corruptible) Ministry of Magic in London.

The film, which will be directed by David Yates, who made the last four Potter films, is the first in a planned trilogy. Joining Redmayne in Fantastic Beasts are Katherine Waterston, Colin Farrell, Ezra Miller, Samantha Morton, Alison Sudol, and Dan Fogler. The magic will hit the big screen on November 18, 2016.

The key art for the film, released yesterday, is below:
