Henry Cavill posts cryptic Superman video as reports claim he's leaving superhero role

The Man of Steel mystery continues.

This week, multiple reports surfaced that Henry Cavill would be handing in his Superman cape following an alleged dispute with Warner Bros. over his unavailability for a cameo appearance in Shazam!, the Zachary Levi-fronted DC Comics superhero film due out next April.

It remains unclear whether Cavill — who played Superman in Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League — will return to the DC Universe. In a statement to the Hollywood Reporter Wednesday, Warner Bros. was vague about the British actor’s future.

“While no decisions have been made regarding any upcoming Superman films, we’ve always had great respect for and a great relationship with Henry Cavill, and that remains unchanged,” the studio said.

Fans seeking a clear answer will no doubt be further frustrated by the Instagram video Cavill posted late Wednesday night. In it, the Mission: Impossible – Fallout star wears a “Krypton Lifting Team” T-shirt while slowly lifting a Superman action figure up to his chest. He says nothing as a version of “The Blue Danube” featuring barking dogs blares in the background.

“Today was exciting,” the actor captioned the post, adding the #Superman hashtag.

Cavill is obviously referencing the reports about his rumored Superman exit — but no one seems to have a clue as to what he’s trying to tell fans.

“I don’t what this means,” read one comment.

“I’m really confused,” admitted another follower.

“Aaaaaah what is going on?!?” a fan wrote. “Cavill please still be Superman! I want there to be a surprise announcement soon or something.”

“I think this video is telling people that the rumors of him leaving are fake???” someone speculated.

“Dude… say something,” pleaded a frustrated fan.

“Goddddd ur so annoying — tell us the tea,” added a confused commenter.

Some DC fans are wondering if this cryptic Krypton development is all a publicity stunt. If so, consider our attention grabbed.
