In an effort to defend trans rights in the United States, the U.K., and Canada, dozens of artists have recorded cover songs for a new compilation that will raise money for organizations in those countries. Joanna Sternberg recorded Caroline Rose’s “Everywhere I Go I Bring the Rain,” Rostam interpreted Lucinda Williams’ “Change the Locks,” Wednesday took on Elliott Smith’s “Christian Brothers,” and Model/Actriz perform the Ting Tings’ “That’s Not My Name” on the 44-track Fader + Friends Vol. 1 compilation available on Bandcamp for one month, starting today.

One hundred percent of the Andrew Jackson you fork over will be divided between the United States’ Transgender Law Center, the U.K.’s Mermaids, and Canada’s Rainbow Railroad. Other artists featured on the compilation include Nnamdï, Ezra Furman, Caroline Rose, Georgia Anne Muldrow, and many others.

“The rationale for the compilation is simple: to push back against a new moral panic that has overrun the western world,” the label, Fader, said in a statement. “States across the USA are passing a wide range of legislation targeting transgender youth and adults, blocking their access to procedures and medicines that affirm gender identity, and libeling the community as a threat to the physical safety of children. Politicians in the United Kingdom are following suit, and Canada is far from immune. This poisonous rhetoric has translated into an epidemic of violence against the trans community that shows no signs of going away on its own. The war against trans people is not a metaphorical one; we need to loudly affirm which side we’re on.”

Chicago Mastering donated its services for the project.
