‘Hellboy’ Ron Perlman to headline the 2024 Las Cruces International Film Festival

The Las Cruces International Film Festival announced this week that award winning actor Ron Perlman will receive the festival’s Outstanding Achievement in Entertainment Award.

The eighth annual LCIFF is scheduled to take over Las Cruces the week of April 3 with submitted films and special features. Perlman is scheduled to appear at several events April 4, including a question-and-answer session at New Mexico State University, Q and A’s with audiences before and after the screening of his film “Hellboy” and an evening reception where he will be presented the festival’s top award.

With this award, Perlman joins the growing group of previous recipients – Giancarlo Esposito, William H. Macy, Danny Trejo, Brendan Fraser, George Lopez, Cybill Shepherd, Richard Dreyfuss and Edward James Olmos.

Perlman’s acting career spans nearly 50 years and projects on stage, the silver screen and television. He has played hundreds of roles, but is especially known for playing Hellboy in Guillermo del Toro’s “Hellboy,” Vincent in the “Beauty and the Beast” TV series, Clay Morrow in “Sons of Anarchy” and Pernell Harris in “Hand of God.”

His performance in “Beauty and the Beast” won him a Golden Globe in 1989 for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Drama.

In recent years, Perlman has lent his voice in the 2022 film “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio” and as Optimus Primal in the 2023 “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.”

Ross Marks, LCIFF executive director, described Perlman as a “legendary actor” in a news release announcing the award recipient.

“His outstanding and diverse body of work is simply impressive. It is a thrill the Las Cruces International Film Festival can honor him in person. He is the consummate actor whose values and work ethic reflect the film festival. We are beyond ecstatic to have him as the face of the 2024 film festival,” Marks said.

Perlman’s upcoming projects include appearing opposite Liam Neeson in the film “Thug,” expected to release in October 2024, and in a series reboot of the 1996 “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” starring Maya Erskine and Donald Glover. The series is scheduled to air Feb. 2 on Amazon Prime.

Ninth annual Las Cruces International Film Festival

The 2024 film festival will be held April 3 through April 7 at Allen Theatres’ Cineport 10. However, the festivities will kick off in March with the unveiling of this year’s collectible poster designed by Las Cruces artist Vicki Henley.

While the full festival schedule is yet to be released, festival organizers announced that Perlman will speak to students at NMSU in the afternoon of April 4, introduce his film “Hellboy” to Cineport 10 audiences that evening and answer questions following the screenings. Tickets for the festival are available to purchase online at www.lascrucesfilmfest.com.
