8:00 p.m. — “Previously on ‘Hell’s Kitchen’!” In the season premiere, 18 fresh faces entered Hell’s Kitchen to compete on Season 22. After being divided in teams by gender, the Red Team (women) pulled off their first victory over the Blue Team (men) in the Signature Dish Challenge. The winners enjoyed a day of luxury while the men were left cleaning up the kitchen. Nobody was eliminated…yet. But buckle up, tonight someone’s going home in “Tad Overwhelming!”

8:05 p.m. — For today’s challenge the contestants will be working with fresh live scallops. They have 45 minutes to retrieve, shuck, clean and cook their fresh scallops. After a quick demo from Gordon, the chefs are off! The winner of this challenge gets the all-important punishment pass, which allows a chef to skip a future punishment and choose someone from the winning team to take their place.

8:15 p.m. — Time expires and Gordon asks each team to choose their top three dishes. Carmen is insistent hers is the best on the Red Team, but nobody else agrees. With a punishment pass on the line, Carmen asserts herself, but is outvoted. Her dish will not be among the three Gordon tastes from the Red Team. The Red Team puts forward Sammi’s scallop crudo, which Gordon says “looks confident.” Leigh is next with seared scallops, which is called “beautifully done,” and better than Sammi’s. Last up is Melissa’s New Orleans-style scallops. Gordon loves the flavor and awards Melissa the punishment pass for the Red Team.

8:20 p.m. — The Blue Team is up next, beginning with Jermaine’s chipotle seared scallops. Gordon loves the heat. Next is Johnathan’s dish with “beautifully nailed” scallops that have the slight edge over Jermaine’s. Last up is Ryan, whose pan-seared scallops are called “exceptional.” Gordon awards the Blue Team’s punishment pass to Johnathan.

8:30 p.m. — With Hell’s Kitchen opening tonight, Gordon sends everyone back to the dorm to take a break until the sous chefs call them back for dinner service. Jason continues to rub everyone the wrong way, making inappropriate jokes and just acting like a jerk in general. We have a Season 22 villain! Next, the chefs have five hours of menu training with the sous chefs. It’s a lot to take in, but important heading into tonight’s first dinner service. After the intense training the chefs prep there stations in anticipation for tonight’s guests. Moments later Hell’s Kitchen officially opens with celebrity diners including Garcelle Beauvais, Oscar De La Hoya and Martina McBride.

8:40 p.m. — The first tongue-lashing of the night goes to the Blue Team for serving up raw lobster in the appetizer round. This misstep falls on Jason’s shoulders, which amuses some of his teammates. The Red Team has a strong start with flatbreads, which Martina calls spectacular. Ever the skeptic, Gordon is annoyed by the Red Team’s early celebration and says there’s a long way to go and they can save the celebrating for when dinner service is over. “Calm down a touch,” he says. Meanwhile, Jason continues to struggle with lobster and he gets pulled into the back by Gordon. Gordon screams at Jason and Devon to get it together. Devon refuses to sink on this ship with Jason. They finally get the lobster right and appetizers are going out at a steady pace. It’s time for entrees.

8:45 p.m. — Carmen is falling behind on the fish station, causing problems for the Red Team. Next, Gordon cuts into Sandra’s steak and it’s “nicely cooked.” It’s a huge relief for the chef. The Blue Team continues to struggle with communication and execution. Bradley and Tad undercook the steak and Gordon sends it back. Later, Sandra mishears Atoya and fails to get chicken plated in time. The Blue Team finally gets a steak cooked properly and now it’s time to serve De La Hoya. The pressure is on! Gordon calls their slow pace “absolutely insane!” To make matters worse, both the halibut and chicken are undercooked. Gordon tells everyone to “f*** off” and kicks the Blue Team out of the kitchen. The sous chefs will finish out dinner service on the Blue side. Yikes! Jason goes up to the dorm and tells the chefs it was “by far” the worst dinner service ever in the history of “Hell’s Kitchen” and the Blue Team will have to pick two nominees to go home because they’re a bunch of losers.

8:55 p.m. — Things don’t go much more smoothly for the Red Team as they start serving up raw chicken, which Claudia seems to think is funny. Her laughter infuriates Gordon and he kicks the Red Team out of the kitchen as well and tells them to come up with two nominees of their own to go home. Claudia says it was nervous laughter. The Red Team is in a heated discussion about who should be nominated. Sandra put out raw meat, Carmen annoys everyone and Claudia’s a giggler. Over on the Blue Team people point fingers at Jason, Brad and Tad. Jason refuses to accept responsibility. The others own up to their mistakes, which causes members of the Blue Team to say Jason lacks integrity.

9:00 p.m. — It’s time for the first elimination of Season 22. The Blue Team nominates Tad and Brad. The Red Team nominates Atoye and Sandra. All four of these chefs were on the meat station and sent up raw entrees. After each chef pleads their case to stay, Gordon decides to send home Tad. Gordon says the 28-year old from Chicago hasn’t shown him anything. He tells Atoye to “get a grip” and Brad to “fight back” when he makes a mistake, sending them back in line. Gordon doesn’t know why Sandra was even nominated to begin with. Next, Gordon sends everyone back to the dorms with a final “f*** off!” In closing, Gordon says, “Tad not only believed quidditch is a real sport, but also that he’s a real chef. Neither is true.”
