Helena Bonham Carter Visited Psychic For A 'Little Chat' With Princess Margaret Before 'The Crown'

Netflix's Fanciest Series Is Back

The Crown has become a jewel in Netflix's, well, crown, garnering a host of accolades and a very dedicated fan base. The worldwide obsession with the British royal family fuels the series, focusing in on the emotional turmoil behind the public figures that everyone knows.

The third season hits Netflix on November 17th, and there are quite a few surprises in store.

A Whole New Cast

Unfortunately Claire Foy couldn't portray Queen Elizabeth II forever, and Oscar winner Olivia Colman will be taking the reins. Most of the cast has been overhauled for the third season, with older actors taking on the roles. One of the major changes is Helena Bonham Carter taking over from Vanessa Kirby as the headstrong Princess Margaret.

Bonham Carter has opened up about her unorthodox method of preparation, and truly it is extremely on brand for the historically spooky actress: she visited a psychic in order to have a "little chat" with the real Princess Margaret from the beyond.

She Went Straight To The Source

According to Bonham Carter, she always consults a psychic before playing a real life person who is deceased, telling The Telegraph "When you play someone real, you really want their blessing because you do have a responsibility."

Apparently, Princess Margaret really wanted her to "get the smoking right, I smoked in a good way, and remember the cigarette holder was as much a weapon for expression as it was for smoking."

Overall, the dead royal was onboard with Bonham Carter bringing her to life onscreen.

"She said, apparently, she was glad it was me. I asked her, 'Are you OK with me playing you?' And she said, 'You're better than the other actress that they were thinking of.'"

Cheeky!
