The hist0ry-making monarch died at age 96 after reigning over England for more than 70 years. From ruling alongside Winston Churchill to ushering in the 21st century, Queen Elizabeth II has become an iconic figure since taking over the throne in 1952 after serving in the Auxiliary Territorial Service during World War II. At 25 years old, Elizabeth II became the queen regnant of seven independent Commonwealth countries: the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan, and Ceylon (known today as Sri Lanka), as well as Head of the Commonwealth.
