This weekend, the Plaza Classic Film Festival comes to a close with Edward James Olmos and Helen Hunt in town for special appearances. Both will speak before the showings of their movies including "Stand and Deliver," and "As Good as It Gets."

Viva! El Paso continues with performances for two more weekends. And there is art, comedy and concerts this weekend at the Abraham Chavez Theatre.

'Under the Same Sky' art exhibition

La Mecha Contemporary art gallery will have an opening reception for the “Under the Same Sky” exhibition by Las Cruces artist Eva Gabriella Flynn from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 27 at  3803 Frutas Ave. The exhibition will feature flags, maps and paintings that weave historical and personal narratives to create an intimate re-imagined world of the Borderland. There also will be a new juried show, “Skies,” in the gallery’s Project Room with 13 local and national artists.

Viva! El Paso continues this weekend

Viva! El Paso fans can enjoy the 2023 version of the show with performances at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through Aug. 5 at McKelligon Canyon Amphitheatre. Ticket prices are lower this year, including $20 for adults and $15 for groups, members of the military and children, a release states. Tickets can be purchased at the Plaza Theatre box office Downtown at 125 W. Mills Ave. or on the day of the show at the McKelligon Canyon Amphitheatre box office. El Pasoans looking to get home building ideas can check out five amazing $1 million plus homes in the Dream Big Parade of Homes, open weekends through Aug. 6 in River View Estates in the Upper Valley. Hours are: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Tickets for the parade of homes are $12, plus fees, and are only available online via eventzilla.net The parade is sponsored by the El Paso Association of Builders and Cadence Lending Group.

Plaza Classic Film Festival

The Plaza Classic Film Festival continues through Sunday, July 30 at the Plaza Theatre.

Edward James Olmos will be interviewed before two of his films: 1988’s “Stand and Deliver,” for which he was nominated for an Academy Award, at 7 p.m. Friday, July 28 and 1982's “The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez,” which was the first film produced by his Olmos Productions, at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 29, both in the Plaza Theatre.

Helen Hunt will appear with As Good As It Gets (1997) at 7 p.m Saturday, July 29, and Twister (1996) at 1 pm Sunday, July 30, both in the Plaza Theatre. For full schedule and ticket information: plazaclassic.com/schedule

Alfresco! Fridays continue Downtown

Alfresco! Fridays will feature Lush Life Quintet from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 28, at the El Paso convention center plaza. The free summer concert is scheduled every Friday through Aug. 25. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. Guests may not bring outside food, drinks or pets but are encouraged to bring foldable lawn chairs.

Jessy & Joy summer tour

The Mexico City pop duo Jesse & Joy will bring their tour to El Paso with a show at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 29, at the Abraham Chavez Theater. Their sound is mix of hooky rock, sparkling folk, norteño, pop, and cumbia. Their 2006 Warner debut, Esta Es Mi Vida, won multiple Latin Grammys. Tickets, ranging from $20 to $125, plus fees, are available at Ticketmaster.com

Blake Lynch brings comedy tour to Abraham Chavez Theatre

Nurse Blake, a nurse, creator, and internationally touring comedian, will bring his Shock Advised Tour to El Paso with a show at 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, at the Plaza Theatre. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets and Info: https://www.axs.com/events/473177/nurse-blake-tickets

Music at the Park

The Music at the Park series continues from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Aug. 4 at Joey Barraza and Vino Park, 11270 McCombs St. All the free outdoor music events will include live bands and performances, interactive activities, vendors, informational booths, giveaways and food trucks.
