Heckler interrupts Bill de Blasio during CNN town hall

During a live CNN town hall on Sunday, Democratic presidential candidate and New York Mayor Bill de Blasio addressed police brutality. This town hall was just days after the NYPD fired Daniel Pantaleo for his involvement in the 2014 choking death of Eric Garner.

The Garner case was a major storyline in the U.S. and was one of the primary catalysts for the #BlackLivesMatter movement. No charges have been filed against any of the officers involved. However, Pantaleo was fired from the NYPD last week.

While de Blasio was talking, a protester identified as Julianne Hoffenberg of Justice League NYC started shouting the names of other officers involved in the arrest. She asked, "What about the four other officers that contributed to the death of Eric Garner and contributed to its coverup? You haven't done anything, mayor. You haven't done a single thing."

The protester was removed and the town hall continued uninterrupted. While de Blasio did not address the protester’s concerns, he did say the police brutality needed to be addressed on a federal level.

“There needs to be federal leadership that says de-escalation training, implicit bias training, body cameras, every police officer in America should have those,” Said de Blasio, adding, “That's how we end the tragedies.“
