Miley Cyrus feared the rainy, windy weather that hit Los Angeles the day of the 2024 Grammys would make her miss her award-winning moment — and she wasn’t the only one.

Hundreds of people were still waiting, a few minutes before showtime, to get inside the Crypto.com Arena as rain pelted them, despite a sea of umbrellas. Women in gowns with bare shoulders shivered in soaking their dresses. Men in suits were drenched as well.

One woman dressed in a strapless dress appeared to give up as she got wet, telling no one in particular, “I’ll watch it at home.”

It’s typical for there to be a logjam getting into an awards show venue, with heavy security,  but the storm, for which California governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency, made it even more difficult.

Cyrus, who won the first Grammy of her career (and of the main broadcast) — best pop performance, for her hit “Flowers” — talked about how the weather made her late to the big night.

“Oh my God, I just got stuck in the rain and traffic and thought I was going to miss this moment,” said Cyrus, clutching her golden gramophone next to presenter Mariah Carey. “And I could have missed the award, that’s fine, but not Mariah Carey.”

Local residents were advised to stay off the roads due to heavy rain that was supposed to continue until at least Tuesday.
