The husband of Heart front woman Ann Wilson has been formally charged with assaulting his 16-year-old twin nephews after a concert in the Seattle suburb of Auburn, Washington last Friday night.

Dean Stuart Wetter was present for a hearing at Maleng Regional Justice Center Wednesday afternoon where he was charged with second and fourth degree assault of the teenagers after they apparently left the door open on Wilson’s tour bus.

The episode took place during a Heart performance held at the White River Amphitheater, where the twins were watching the performance from a backstage VIP area. When they asked to see inside the new tour bus, Wetter agreed – warning them to be mindful of letting dogs out of the vehicle.

According to court documents filed today by Senior Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Benjamin A. Santos and obtained by PEOPLE, Wetter, 65, “flew into a rage” when he noticed the door had not been shut.

“The incident began with words but quickly escalated when the defendant slapped and punched the first boy in the back of the head before grabbing him by the neck,” the statement continues. “When the boy’s brother intervened, the defendant wrapped his hand around the boy’s neck and strangled him, cutting off his breathing to the point where he thought he was going to die.”

The alleged confrontation took place in front of three witnesses, and Wetter immediately confessed to police. “He further admitted that he just lost it and shouldn’t have touched the boys,” state the documents.

Wetter paid the $10,000 bail during a court appearance on Monday, and has been ordered to have no contact with the teens until further notice. He will be arraigned on Sept. 13.

“Since this is a family matter, it is asked that you respect their privacy,” a rep for Wilson told PEOPLE in a statement.

Wilson and Wetter were married in April 2015 during an intimate ceremony in Topanga, California. “He is my friend, my angel, my husband,” Wilson told PEOPLE at the time. “I am truly happy.”
