HBO to make Nora Ephron documentary directed by her son
Late filmmaker Nora Ephron, who died last summer at age 71, will soon have her life and career memorialized on HBO. The cable network is planning to make a documentary about Ephron, EW has confirmed. The Hollywood Reporter first announced the news.
Ephron’s son Jacob Bernstein (also son of famed Washington Post Watergate reporter Carl Bernstein, to whom Ephron was married for four years) will direct and co-produce the documentary, which HBO describes as “an intimate portrait” of his mother.” The film will be called Everything is Copy, a lesson taught to Ephron by her mother, who also used her life as inspiration for her writing.
Matt Parker and Carly Hugo, producers on past HBO films, will produce Everything is Copy, and Emmy-award winning Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter will executive produce.
Ephron — known for her work as a journalist, novelist, playwright, and director of such beloved films as Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail — died last June after a battle with acute myeloid leukemia. Her final project was the play Lucky Guy, currently running on Broadway and starring Tom Hanks.
Jacob Bernstein is a writer for the Daily Beast. The HBO documentary follows a tribute to his mother he wrote for The New York Times last month.
