Haunted happenings: Fear, horror, and ghosts on the SouthCoast

The spooky season is creeping up on us and it's time to get your fill on all things Halloween. The haunted season is usually a fan favorite with all the ghosts, ghouls, and gore that come along with it.

There is no age limit on embracing all the Halloween things happening this month. From haunted houses to pumpkin smashes there is horror-filled fun to be had, if you dare.

Here are some Halloween happenings on the SouthCoast, hope you don’t get too scared.

Factory of Terror

Cost: $20 - $30

Factory of Terror is an indoor haunted house offering a frightening and spooky experience. With realistic, detailed rooms featuring cutting-edge special effects and horror actors wearing professionally applied make-up and prosthetics. Extreme Fears is happening on Nov. 10 and 11, a weekend of full contact touch.

Fear Town Haunted House

Cost: $25- $59.

There are three haunted houses providing over 45 minutes worth of bone-chilling scares. In addition to the haunted houses, Fear Town has a midway full of games, experiences, food, and entertainment to enjoy.

Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular

Cost:  Monday through Thursday: adult $18, child $15; Friday through Sunday: adult $21, child $18; toddlers one and under are always free.

Celebrate the Halloween season with a visit to Roger Williams Zoo's Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular. Stroll through a path that features thousands of intricately carved pumpkins. This year's spectacular takes you from a European vacation to a wildlife safari with Pumpkins Around the World.

Lizzie Borden House Tours

When: Ghost tours nightly from 7 to 9 p.m.; ghost hunt nightly from 10 p.m. to midnight

Where: 230 Second St., Fall River

Cost: Starting at $25

Ghost tours are a 90-minute ghost tour of Fall River’s most riveting stories, rich and amazing history, and haunting. Lizzie’s Ghost Hunt will allow you to dig into the famous death house with your own ghost-hunting equipment for your group as you find out the secrets waiting within the Borden home.

Pumpkin Smash Spooktactular

Where: Seekonk Speedway, 1710 Fall River Ave., Seekonk

Cost: adult $25; child (6-12) $12; 5 and under free

The Great Pumpkin Smash with costume contests for kids, adults, and cars as well as over 10,000 pounds of pumpkins smashed on the race track. There are also spectator drags, car and truck enduro, figure 8 races, enduro drags, enduro races, power puff race and more. There will also be a Halloween costume contest from noon to 1 p.m.

MonstahXpo

When: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Sunday, Oct. 15

Where: Clarion Hotel and Conference Center, 700 Myles Standish Blvd., Taunton

Cost: Starts at $15

MonstahXpo Returns! is a horror-themed pop culture exposition with 140+ curated artists, creators, movie makers, vendors, and special celebrity guests. There is a 3D experience for you to enjoy with 3D movie screenings, maps, and signs. Happenstance Horror Fest will also be returning with indie horror from all over the world in a larger amphitheater.

Gothic Ghost Tales by Candlelight

When: 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18

Where:  New Bedford Downtown Library, 613 Pleasant St., New Bedford

Cost: free

Experience Rita Parisi‘s unique performance as she tells gothic ghost stories from the 20th century that are sure to spook and entice you.

Mystery at the Mansion: The Curse

A playful evening of historical fiction filled with mystery and curses. Follow the clues to break the curse on all who have entered the Rotch-Jones-Duff House & Garden. Tickets include a light dinner.

About Legends and Lore: A Spooky Evening Stroll at Copicut Woods

When: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27 and Saturday, Oct. 28

Where: Copicut Woods, Indian Town Road, Fall River

Cost: $12 for Trustee members; $20 for non-members

Spend a haunted evening with a hike through the deep dark Copicut Woods, known for rumors of witchcraft and paranormal activity. Learn about the local lore, while traveling through an abandoned farm settlement along a spooky four-mile trek.

Nosferatu LIVE

An evening of live music, classic horror, creepy costumes, and some very special guests. The 1922 silent horror movie Nosferatu has been terrifying audiences for 100 years. See the show as you have never before in this live rendition with a live band playing along to the soundtrack.
