‘Harry Potter’ star Jessie Cave slams co-star for ridiculing adult fans of franchise

Jessie Cave, 36, who played Lavender Brown in the “Harry Potter” movies, is slamming her co-star, Miriam Margolyes, 82, who played Professor Sprout.

“I worry about Harry Potter fans because they should be over that by now,” Margolyes said during a recent interview with New Zealand’s 1News network. “It was 25 years ago, and it’s for children.”

“People say, ‘We’re having a Harry Potter-themed wedding,’ and I think, ‘Gosh, what’s their first night of fun going to be?’ I can’t even think about it. No.”

Cave reacted to her comments during an appearance at Dream It Con on Saturday.

“It’s such a shame that that happened. You know how she is, she’s just a bit funny. And I think she didn’t mean for it to be taken like that, I hope … I really don’t like that she said that.”

Cave was in several of the “Potter” films, but she was most prominent in “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” when Lavender briefly became Ron Weasley’s (Rupert Grint) simpering girlfriend.

Margolyes played their eccentric herbology professor.

This isn’t the first time that Margolyes has made headline-grabbing remarks.

The “Little Shop of Horrors” and “Romeo + Juliet” actress previously called Steve Martin “horrid” and “incredibly unfunny,” she defended J.K. Rowling for her controversial remarks about transgender people, and she alleged that Arnold Schwarzenegger was “quite rude” and “deliberately farted” in her face.

Jason Isaacs, 60, who starred as Lucius Malfoy in the “Potter” franchise, opened up about the young cast in an interview with The Post in February.

“It was always strange going back to the films, where they were a couple years older than the last time I saw them, and I would treat them how they had been previously. So, treating a 14-year-old like a 12-year-old wasn’t great,” he said.

“And, when they were 18, and we treated them like they still weren’t allowed to smoke or drink — and, they were doing both at an industrial pace — that was odd.”

“What’s odd is when people say to me, ‘Is it strange, them growing up?’ It would be extremely strange if I met them and they were still 12! I saw Rupert recently, and they looked incredibly happy,” Isaacs went on, referring to Grint, 35, who welcomed daughter Wednesday in 2020 with his longtime partner, actress Georgia Groome, 32.

“I speak to Tom all the time; he doesn’t have kids yet. I know Dan is a dad,” said Isaacs, referring to Tom Felton and Daniel Radcliffe.

“They’re all men and women, and very accomplished in whatever field they are, and it’s always lovely to see them.”

It was recently announced that a “Harry Potter” TV show is in development with Max.

James and Oliver Phelps, 38, who played Fred and George Weasley, told The Post in July that they would be game to return — if the show asked them.

“I suppose so. It’s one of those things where it’s never really a chapter closed in your life,” said Oliver.

“Whether as our characters, that’s a totally different thing – we’re not quite looking like high schoolers anymore! If it does happen, we only know as much as you do. But, it’s nice that there’s a lot of intrigue around the show.”

“We’ve got a very close bond with a lot of the Potter cast,” James chimed in. “Because it’s like friends from high school or college. You’ve gone through a lot together.”

During the convention over the weekend, Cave further said that the Potter fan base is “still bonded” despite getting older.

“It’s passed on to younger people and younger generations, and that’s what’s so amazing. [Margolyes] probably just doesn’t understand that [or] get that. So that’s OK, and just let her be,” she noted.

“But I think it’s just very unusual, this situation.”
