Harrowing video shows herd of bison charge family trapped in car at Yellowstone Park
A family visiting Yellowstone National Park found themselves in the middle of a stampede when a herd of bison charged into the road, ramming their car.
Video of the incident, taken by the Delle Chiaie family last week, shows a group of cars stopped on the road as bison approach from a nearby field.
Father Bruce Chiaie was in a rental car with his wife and three children when the stampede started. The bison can be seen running through the road and directly toward the family's car.
"Oh my God. Oh, don't do it. Don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't," one of the passengers can be heard saying in the video.
Then, just as another bison approaches, a woman says "look at the big one in front of us."
The animal collides with the vehicle, causing the person filming the video to drop their camera. A large crack can be seen on the front window after the impact, although it's unclear what other damages the car may have sustained.
"Oh man, there goes the money," someone in the car jokes. "Thanks for not taking the insurance."
Today reported that some of the passengers believe the animals were provoked by a car alarm, which caused them to stampede. No one involved was reported to be seriously injured.
This isn't the first bison encounter recorded in Yellowstone this summer. Last month, a 9-year-old girl was thrown into the air by a bison while visiting the park's Old Faithful geyser. The girl received no major injuries, but a video of the attack went viral.

At least two people were injured in bison attacks at Yellowstone in 2018. In total, more than 4 million people visited the park last year.
The park advises that visitors should stay at least 25 yards away from animals at all times. Yellowstone's safety guidelines also warn specifically about bison, noting that they are able to run up to three times faster than humans.
