Harrison Ford's Advice for the Next Han Solo: 'Don't Do It'

As the world awaits the announcement of who will be portraying Han Solo in the Star Wars origin film, Harrison Ford made a surprise appearance on Ellen, where the actor discussed the upcoming movie. He seemed to have a bit of an issue with the concept of it being a “new” Han Solo. “Not a new Han Solo,” Ford said to DeGeneres. “It’s worse than that. It’s a young Han Solo.” Young is a good way to put it. The current front-runners — Jack Reynor, Taron Egerton, and Alden Ehrenreich — have an average age of about 25. However, Ford said he was “flattered” that these young actors would look to reprise the part.

But it was Ford’s commentary on taking the role itself that caused quite a stir. When asked by Ellen if he had any advice for whoever was selected, Ford’s response was “Don’t do it.” There was a little humor to his tone, but he elaborated. “You know, first it seems like everything is going swimmingly,” said Ford, “and you put in 25 or 30 years, and then they just … they just let you go.”
