When you think of Harrison Ford, images of daring escapades and heart-stopping action sequences from Indiana Jones or Star Wars might flash through your mind. Yet, those who’ve had the pleasure of working with Ford paint a picture of a man as gracious off-screen as he is heroic on it. They say he’s a class act, treating everyone from the director to the daily crew with the same level of respect. Well, it turns out he’s as cool off-screen as he is on, proven by the time he got an earring simply because a rock star had one.

This detail of Ford’s life came to light during a heartfelt moment on stage at the Hollywood Bowl last Friday. The occasion was “Keep the Party Going: A Tribute to Jimmy Buffett,” a night filled with music and memories dedicated to the late singer-songwriter who left an indelible mark on the world with his laid-back beach anthems.

“I remember a long — some might say ‘boozy’ — lunch with Jimmy and Ed Bradley, and it was Bradley’s birthday. I saw both of them had earrings. So right after lunch, I got my ear pierced,” Ford reminisced with the crowd, standing on stage with Jane Fonda, Woody Harrelson, Paul McCartney, and Jon Bon Jovi, to name a few fellow stars celebrating the late singer.

“That’s just how infectious Jimmy’s coolness is — infectious enough for a 40-year-old man to spontaneously get his f***ing ear pierced,” Ford added to much applause and laughter, per People.

“There is no other way to say it: There will never be another like Jimmy,” Ford stated, a sentiment echoed by many throughout the evening. He continued, “He was kind. He was beloved by his family, by his friends, by his band, his crew and his collaborators, and he loved them all back.”

Ford’s anecdote did more than just share a personal memory; it highlighted the profound connections that often form in the world of music. Jimmy Buffett’s legacy, much like the earring in Harrison Ford’s ear, serves as a testament to the lasting impact of genuine connections and the unforgettable mark they leave.
