'Harold & Kumar' Stars Kal Penn and John Cho Reunite at SAG Rally: 'We Got the Munchies for a Fair Deal!'

Harold and Kumar are back together again!

On Wednesday, Kal Penn, 46, and John Cho, 51 — who costarred together in the Harold & Kumar comedy movie trilogy — reunited at a SAG-AFTRA strike site outside the Paramount Pictures studio lot in Los Angeles.

"We have the munchies for a fair deal," Penn wrote in a post he shared on his Instagram page, referencing the pair's cult classic stoner comedy films.

The actor and former Obama administration White House staff member also shared a video of himself and Cho speaking to the crowd of striking actors gathered outside Paramount's studio lot, during which he opined that SAG has gained an upper hand two months after the guild initially called a strike.

“We’ve got studio executives and big corporations who love to tweet about equity. They love to post on social media about equity," Penn said in footage posted by the Associated Press. "They love all the performative s--- that comes with pretending that they support us.”

“Yeah, boy!” Cho added, causing Penn, Cho and the crowd to break out in laughter. “I’ve missed L.A. very much,” Penn said.

Penn and Cho joined SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher, who was recently re-elected to her post as the union's head, at Wednesday's rally outside the Paramount lot, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The pair told THR that they did not intend to speak to those gathered at the picket lines until they were asked to join the crowd.

“We were just in the back, here to support and they asked, ‘Do you want to come up?'” Penn told the outlet.

“It was like a scene from one of our struck works," Cho added.

Penn and Cho costarred in three Harold & Kumar films, beginning with 2004's Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle and most recently in 2011's A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas. The films were distributed by New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures — two of the major Hollywood studios SAG is currently on strike against.

Back in 2021, Cho suggested that in a GQ video interview that while there is interest in making another Harold & Kumar movie, there was some doubt amongst its creative team about how to pull off the kind of comedy seen throughout series' first three films.

“This is a really stupid answer, but we used to have a lot of political jokes, and race jokes, and I don;’t know what the movie can do now," he said at the time. "I don’t know how to navigate that. We’re giving it some thought, but it is a much more complicated endeavor than it was five years ago."
