Hard Rock Co-Founder Peter Morton Claims His Sister Threatened to Shoot Him and His Kids

Peter Morton — who co-founded the Hard Rock Cafe as well as The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino — claims his own sister has threatened his life and the lives of his children.

According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Morton says he received a phone call on June 7 from his sister, Heidi Gibbs, during which he claims she "made direct threats" to harm him and his family.

"Most recently," Morton claims, "she threatened to shoot me and my children, and she has made similar threats to my mother."

He claims Gibbs has not come to his home yet but says she "has gone to my mother's home and broken in." Morton also says his mother's caretaker has already gotten a restraining order against Gibbs.

Morton is not disregarding the threat on his life as just talk, saying, "Given her mental instability, I am concerned that she would actually follow through with this threat."

On Monday, a judge granted Morton's request for a temporary restraining order. Gibbs was ordered to stay 100 yards away from Morton and his three children — Harry (the founder of Pink Taco restaurants), Matthew and Grace.

A hearing to make the order permament has been set for next month.

According to reports, Morton sold the Hard Rock Café chain in 1995 for $410 million. In 2006, he sold Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas in an all-cash deal that reportedly netted him in excess of $730 million.

Morton's father, Arnie Morton, was the founder of the Morton's Steakhouse chain.
