From 'Happy Tails' to 'Happy Trails': Peggy Adams thanks donors with see-you-in-the-fall party

Emilia Pfeifler, center, is serving as chairwoman of the Peggy Adams Happy Tails benefit, set for April 11 at The Colony.

A thank you note is nice.

But a glass of champers and a half-dozen cheese puffs does the trick, too. Not that we were counting.

Supporters of the Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League gathered for a thank-you reception and celebration of the previous year's accomplishments.

The event took place March 26 at Club Colette.

PAARL board members and longtime supporters Emilia Fanjul Pfeifler and Mayor Danielle Moore were chairwomen for the relaxed and casual "Happy Tails" evening, which also served as a "Happy Trails" to donors who would soon be journeying to their summer homes.

In addition to cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and conversations about plans for the impending end of season, the night included remarks from Sue Berry, CEO of the organization.

"What a wonderful evening to celebrate all of our milestones and adoption stories," said Berry. "Our donors are committed to the mission of Peggy Adams, and because of them, we can continue to save the lives of homeless, neglected, and injured dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens, as we have for the past 100 years. We are so grateful for their time, treasures and their love of animals as we continue our lifesaving work."

The night also included a meet-and-greet with some of the adorable animals looking for their forever home.

Hansel, a lovable Chihuahua, hit the jackpot, and went to his "furever" home in the arms of his new mama, Helen Gifford.

But Helen would say the she is the one who hit the jackpot.

More than 100 people attended, including Virginia Burke, John Hendrickson, Emilia and J. Pepe Fanjul, Grace and Chris Meigher, Elizabeth Meigher, Carole French, Kate Gubelmann, Sherri and Jack Grace, Candy Hamm, Vicky and Sam Hunt, Denise and Dan Hanley, Mish Tworkowski and Joseph Singer, Barbera Thornhill, Emmy and Rudy Sheerer, Audrey McNiff and Tim Cohan, Michelle Farmer, Gabriela and David Porges, Kim and Don Patrick, Deborah and Dennis Glass, Laurie Raber Gottlieb and Steven Gottlieb, Eva and Herb Jacobi, and Carol McCracken.

Proceeds from the event assist the Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League in its mission to shelter lost, homeless, and unwanted animals; to provide spay and neuter and other medical services for companion animals; to care for, protect, and find quality homes for homeless and neglected companion animals; to advocate for animal welfare, community involvement, and education; and to further the bond between people and animals.
