Happy Hanukkah 2023: Where to celebrate the Festival of Lights in Phoenix

As Hanukkah approaches, the metro Phoenix Jewish community is gearing up for a series of festive events that promise to add sparkle to the season.

From menorah lighting ceremonies to community gatherings, there's a diverse range of celebrations to participate in. Join in the joy at traditional candle-lighting ceremonies, lively music performances and other opportunities for families and friends to come together.

Whether it's savoring the taste of latkes and other holiday treats or engaging in craft activities, these events provide a wonderful chance to embrace the traditions of Hanukkah.

When is Hanukkah?

Hanukkah can begin any time between Nov. 28 and Dec. 26. The variation is a result of the Jewish calendar being based on the lunar cycle, so its dates vary in comparison with other calendars. Hanukkah starts on the 25th day of the month of Kislev on the Jewish calendar.

When is the first night of Hanukkah 2023?

In 2023, Hanukkah starts on Dec. 7 and ends on Dec. 15.

Mesa's Menorah Lighting

Mesa's Menorah Lighting marks the start of Hanukkah during the city's Merry Main Street event. There will be crafts and activities for kids of all ages, plus the lighting of the first candle on the menorah at 6:30 p.m.

Play Jewish Trivia at 6:45 p.m. This all-ages event features a special Hanukkah set by Rick Naimark on piano and vocals.

Experience the enchantment of the holiday at downtown Tempe's Menorah Lighting at Ragsdale-MLK Park, formerly Sixth Street Park. Presented by Downtown Tempe and ASU Chabad, this second annual event includes festivities and a lighting ceremony at 6 p.m.

Celebrate Hanukkah at Chompie's in Scottsdale

Celebrate Hanukkah with a meet-up at Chompie's restaurant in Scottsdale where everyone regardless of background is invited to enjoy the New York family recipes on the menu. The potato latkes are sure to be a highlight. It will be an inclusive celebration of Hanukkah and friendship.

Hanukkah at Painting With a Twist in Tempe

Painting With a Twist invites people 21 and older for a night of Hanukkah-themed painting and libations. Choose from various canvas sizes and styles starting at $36 per person, with optional upgrades available. Enhance your experience by crafting a soy candle as well. The studio is BYOB, allowing beer and wine after 4 p.m.
