Hannah Waddingham has lined up a killer new role.

The Emmy-winning Ted Lasso star has teamed with Oscar recipient Octavia Spencer for an as-yet-untitled Prime Video series that will see TV’s erstwhile Rebecca Welton play an assassin.

The eight-episode series hails from Feel Good creator Tessa Coates, and “follows two best friends — Judith (Waddingham) and Debbie (Spencer) — who know everything about each other… well, almost everything,” according to the official logline. “Judith has been living a double life that Debbie knows nothing about: She is a highly trained assassin.

“When a hit goes horribly wrong, Judith and Debbie must go on the run together and work to repair their broken friendship, all while being targeted by a mysterious enemy who wants them dead,” the synopsis teases. “Only together can they solve this layered mystery.”

The gig marks Waddingham’s first starring role since Ted Lasso concluded its three-season run in May, and Spencer’s first gig since she wrapped fellow Apple TV+ series Truth Be Told in March — also after three seasons.

“I was in as soon as I heard Tessa’s stunning pitch,” Spencer said in a statement. “To be able to dive into a role like Debbie is rare, and working with Hannah to bring this unique friendship to life is a dream. We knew we had something special with [producers] Skydance and Double Dream, and now that we have a home at Amazon, our vision has become a reality.”

Added Waddingham: “I’m not gonna lie: a few expletives fell out of my face at the prospect of working with the magnificent Ms. Spencer, Tessa Coates’ hugely energetic, exhilarating script, Skydance and Double Dream. To then see the immediate excited response from a mighty beast like Amazon! It’s all just incredibly exciting, and I can’t wait to get our collective teeth into it!”

Waddingham can currently be seen in the Apple TV+ holiday special Hannah Waddingham: Home for Christmas; you can watch our video Q&A above. She also voices Deliria in the Fox’s freshman animated comedy Krapopolis, which has already been picked up for two additional seasons.
