It's official: Ted Lasso is this year's best comedy series, according to the critics.

The show won the big award on Sunday evening at the 27th Annual Critics' Choice Awards. The Apple TV+ series beat out fellow nominees The Great, Hacks, Insecure, Only Murders in the Building, The Other Two, Reservation Dogs and What We Do in the Shadows.

Stars Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple and Brett Goldstein stood together in London to claim the prize. During the show's acceptance speech, Waddingham chose to acknowledge the ongoing war in Ukraine sparked by Russia's invasion.

"Thank you so much, but it would be remiss of us to not throw the focus to the most important thing that's happening in the world at the moment," said the actress, 47.

She paid tribute to "our beautiful brothers and sisters and, for me, more importantly, the babies in the Ukraine that are being utterly decimated at the moment from this putrid, putrid torrent of abuse."

She asked, "Please think of them as much as you can and give as much as you can. We are so grateful for this but may this stop. May this stop, please. Thank you so much."

This win marks the second best comedy series win for Ted Lasso. Early on in Sunday's ceremony, Waddingham and Goldstein, 41, also won awards for best supporting actress and actor in a comedy series. Star and co-creator Jason Sudeikis also won for best actor in a comedy series.

The Apple TV+ show tells the story of the American college football coach Ted Lasso (played by Sudeikis), who moves to London to manage the struggling English Premier League soccer team AFC Richmond.

As for the future of the show after season 3, everything seems to still be up in the air. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Sudeikis said, "the story that's being told — that three-season arc — is one that I see, know, and understood. I'm glad that they are willing to pay for those three seasons. As far as what happens after that, who knows? I don't know."

Ted Lasso won three out of the three nominated awards last year including best comedy series, best actor in a comedy series for Sudeikis and best supporting actress in a comedy series for Waddingham.

The 27th annual Critics Choice Awards are airing live on The CW and TBS.
