Hannah John-Kamen Lands Role In Steven Spielberg’s ‘Ready Player One’

EXCLUSIVE: British actress Hannah John-Kamen, who stars in the Syfy series Killjoys, just landed one of the coveted few roles in Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One for Warner Bros. The project is set to begin production next month in London. Tye Sheridan stars with female lead Olivia Cooke and Ben Mendelsohn.

The movie, based on the popular sci-fi novel by Ernest Cline, is scheduled for release March 30, 2018. The book, whose story takes place in a virtual world, was adapted by Zak Penn.

The futuristic tome takes place in 2044 and follows a virtual-reality game creator who offers up his entire company to the best player who can find an Easter egg in one of his many virtual worlds via a game called OASIS. Teenager Wade Watts (Sheridan) decides to take it on after millions have failed over many years. The key to winning the game is a plethora of pop culture clues from the 1980s. Whomever figures it out and wins the game — without having their avatars killed in the process — takes over the entire OASIS empire.

Donald De Line and Dan Farah, who brought the project into the studio, will produce with Kristie Macosko Krieger. Daniel Lupi and Bruce Berman are exec producing. Greg Silverman and Jesse Ehrman are overseeing for Warner Bros.

John-Kamen just wrapped the season finale episode of Netflix’s Black Mirror, which also features Toby Kebbell, Domhnall Gleeson, and Jon Hamm, and plays the lead role of the interplanetary bounty hunter in Killjoys, which will launch its second season on July 1.

She also recurred on HBO’s Game of Thrones as Ornela, a trusted ally of Daenerys early in season 6, and starred in London’s West End musical Viva Forever. Her other TV credits include the BBC series Happy Valley, The Ark and The Hour. She also recurred in Season 2 of the Canal+ series The Tunnel.

She is represented by Paradigm, Luber Roklin Entertainment and Scott Marshall and Associates in the UK.
