Hangout Music Festival arrives in Gulf Shores; festival may be impacted by weather

GULF SHORES, Ala. (WKRG) — Stages and vendors are set up all over the beach in Gulf Shores, getting ready for the Hangout Music Festival.

Gulf Shores Public Information Officer Grant Brown discussed how traffic will be affected.

“The main detours begin at the main intersection of Highway 59 and the beach highway, so if you’re coming from the east from Orange Beach, go through Gulf State Park on the east side of town it’s one way only,” Brown said.

But now with a chance of some storms rolling through, Brown said weather may affect the festival.

“We have meteorologists on sight, lightning detectors,” he said. “We have public safety people monitoring and making good decisions, and if we need to shelter because of weather, we will do that.”

Over 40,000 attendees are expected to walk through the gates this weekend. We spoke with some who just got to town and told us they’re ready.

“I’m so excited to Dom Dolla because I’ve never seen him before, and I see a lot of DJs often, and he’s one that I’ve been looking forward to, and this fest is on the beach, I couldn’t be more excited,” one festival-goer said.

Greg Melhem, visiting from Tuscaloosa, said he’s ready for a music-filled weekend.

“I’m pretty excited, should be a good time,” Melhem said.

And festival-goers also said the setlist this year is a good one.

“They have a lot of famous people here and for $500 for three days to see all the famous people is a really good deal, and it’s an excuse to come to Gulf Shores,” one person said.

The festival begins Friday at noon and ends at 11 p.m. on Sunday.

The roadways are scheduled to be back open to all traffic on Tuesday.
